Description

The role also includes preparing quantity breakdown and reports on deviations from interim milestone estimates and tender results, assisting with cashflow preparation, maintaining cost database, measurement of variations and when necessary assist in value engineering assignments.



Responsibilities

  • Preparing detailed quantity take-off for all trades including Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Fighting works, from contract drawings and specifications.

  • Preparing quantities for cost plans at order-of-magnitude, conceptual, feasibility and pre-development stages, including value engineering and major variations.

  • Preparing quantity take-off for buildings and structures, for MEPF works and operating system elements related to new construction, repair and renovation projects.

  • Performing detailed review of contract specifications and drawings to identify errors, discrepancies and/or ambiguities.

  • Assisting in value engineering assignments.

  • Maintaining current construction cost data based on historical costs, market research, construction cost indices and application of computerized estimating system.

  • Preparing a quantity variance report at various stages of cost planning, including bid analysis and cost reduction strategies.

  • Maintaining files and records of work performed by the department.

  • Candidate being Bi-lingual (English and French) will be desirable and added advantage.



Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferably Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Registration and professional certification in associated organizations or institutions such as RICS or CIOB is mandatory.
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in a consulting firm and/or general contracting or QS firms.
  • Proven skills in the application of practices and procedures involved in the quantity surveying function are essential as is the preparation of quantities for all trades and disciplines involved in complex construction projects.
  • Understanding of the Capital Budget process and the budgeting methodology dealing with cash flow and escalation indices.
  • Must be computer literate with a knowledge of computer-based estimating, electronic spread sheet, data base and other computerized applications related to the work.
  • Should be proficient in the use of CostX/ Estimator or equivalent software, and ACAD and BIM to develop control quantities
  • Should have experience of handling team of min. 4-6 resources
  • Must possess strong analytical and social skills combined with sound judgement and initiative.
