Job Description - Assistant Cost Consultant Dublin

We are seeking an Assistant Cost Manager to join our expanding High Voltage (HV) team in Dublin. The successful candidate will support the commercial and cost management delivery of major electricity infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission lines, underground cable projects, renewable energy connections and grid reinforcement programmes.

Working alongside experienced project controls and commercial professionals, you will play a key role in cost planning, procurement support, cost reporting, forecasting and change management throughout the project lifecycle.

You’ll be responsible for:

Cost management

  • Assist in the preparation of cost plans, estimates and project budgets.
  • Support the development and maintenance of cost control systems.
  • Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Assist with monthly cost reporting and financial performance reviews.
  • Prepare and update cost forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • Support earned value and project performance monitoring where applicable.

Commercial support

  • Assist in procurement activities including tender documentation and bid analysis.
  • Support contract administration activities under NEC, FIDIC or bespoke contracts.
  • Review contractor applications for payment and valuation submissions.
  • Assist with the preparation and management of variation orders and compensation events.
  • Support dispute avoidance and commercial issue resolution.

Project controls and reporting

  • Produce regular commercial and cost performance reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of project commitments, expenditures and forecasts.
  • Support change control processes and project governance requirements.
  • Assist with risk and opportunity assessments from a commercial perspective.
  • Contribute to audit and assurance activities.

Stakeholder management

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, planners and procurement teams.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, contractors and suppliers.
  • Participate in project meetings and commercial reviews.
  • Support the preparation of presentations and management reports. 

You’ll need to have:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Commercial Management, Engineering, Finance or a related discipline.
  • 1-4 years' experience in cost management, quantity surveying or project controls.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within a project environment.
  • Cost planning and estimating.
  • Budget control and forecasting.
  • Financial analysis and reporting.
  • Procurement and tender support.
  • Contract administration.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Risk and change management.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
