Job Title: Cattle Reproduction Specialist

Employer: VETBREED LIMITED , T/A VetBreed

Location: Mallow, Co. Cork. The employee may be required to travel regularly around the farms, mainly within the Munster region. Occasional business trips abroad may also be required, depending on business needs.

Annual Salary: €36,605

Working hours: 39 hours a week

Responsibilities

• Application of Reproductive Biotechniques: Rectal palpation, Artificial Insemination, Fixed Time Artificial Insemination, Gestational Diagnosis, foetal sexing.

• Rectal palpation and foetal viability.

• Whole process of Artificial insemination from identifying the heat of the cows, separate and sanitising the animal, remove the semen from the storage canister, thaw the material in water in the correct temperature, deposit semen in the female’s uterus, until the conception of the calf.

• Fixed -time artificial insemination (FTAI) aiming to inseminate a large number of animals in a single period without observing the oestrus cycle.

• Maintain an effective sanitary control.

• Take care of the postpartum of females so that recovery is fast.

• Carry out effective nutritional management for nutritional performance.

• Perform strict fertility control, discarding infertile or subfertile animals.

• Monitor the oestrus cycle as well as the development of the corpus luteum.

• Identify the exact moment of ovulation so that the conception rate is better.

Requirements:

•Experience as a Cattle Reproduction Specialist or similar position.

•Full knowledge of reproduction cycle.

•Full knowledge of cattle insemination and FTAI.

•Ability to work independently and as part of a farm team.

•Specialised courses in the area will be a plus.
