Central Sterile Services Technician

• Collect and transport used medical devices from clinical areas and ensure their safe handling in accordance with departmental procedures.
  




• Clean and decontaminate medical devices, trolleys, storage shelves, autoclaves and other departmental equipment using approved manual and mechanical methods.
  




• Inspect, function-test, assemble, pack and prepare medical devices for use in theatres, wards and other clinical departments, reporting any faults or discrepancies promptly.
  




• Sterilise, process and issue medical devices in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and quality standards, ensuring timely delivery to end-users.
  




• Maintain adequate stock levels, assist with stock control and requisitioning, and ensure supplies are appropriately stored and readily available.
  




• Maintain accurate departmental records, participate in audit and data collection activities, and comply with Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
  




• Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality service and undertake any other duties as required by the department.
  
  
  

Requirements

• National Certificate in Science (Sterile Services Technology) or Leaving Certificate with a willingness to study for the Certificate in Science.
  




• NFQ Level 6 in Decontamination of Reusable Invasive Medical Devices.
  




• DIT CPD in Medical Device Decontamination.
  




• Any recognised certified training in medical device decontamination.
  




• Previous experience is desirable but not essential.
  




• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  




• Good team-working skills.
  




• Strong attention to detail.
  




• Flexible and adaptable.
