A Healthcare Assistant (HCA) provides essential support to patients and residents across a range of healthcare settings, working under the supervision of nurses and other healthcare professionals. The role involves assisting with personal care, monitoring patients’ health and wellbeing, maintaining a safe and hygienic environment, and accurately documenting patient information.
Healthcare Assistants play a vital role in supporting individuals to maintain dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Assist patients and residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
Support individuals in maintaining their personal hygiene and dignity at all times.
Under the supervision of nursing staff, monitor and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
Assist with basic clinical tasks, including specimen collection where required and within scope of practice.
Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and residents.
Promote comfort, independence, and overall wellbeing.
Ensure patient areas are clean, organized, and adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
Follow infection prevention and control procedures to maintain a safe healthcare environment.
Accurately record observations, vital signs, and any changes in a patient’s condition.
Report concerns promptly to nursing staff or other appropriate healthcare professionals.
Work in accordance with established care plans and follow instructions provided by nurses and healthcare professionals.
Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high -quality care.
Relevant qualification in Healthcare Support or Care Skills (QQI Level 5 or equivalent preferred).
Previous experience in a healthcare or care setting is desirable.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Compassionate, reliable, and patient -focused approach.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Eligibility to work in Ireland.
