Job Description - Healthcare Assistant (Endoscopy)

RecruitNet International Ltd is a specialist healthcare recruitment agency providing domestic and international staffing solutions across hospitals, nursing homes, home care, and community care services.

We are currently recruiting for the position of Healthcare Assistant (Endoscopy) for a hospital based in Westmeath, Ireland.

Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation, care, and support of patients before, during, and after endoscopic procedures.

Support patients with daily living activities, mobility, hygiene, comfort, and safe transfer within the unit.

Prepare endoscopy rooms, equipment, and clinical areas to ensure procedures run safely and efficiently.

Provide post-procedure care and promptly report any patient concerns or changes in condition to nursing staff.

Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and environmental cleanliness.

Assist with patient positioning, safe moving and handling practices, and Emergency First Aid under clinical supervision.

Support patient nutrition, hydration, and monitoring of fluid intake as directed by the nursing team.

Communicate effectively with registered nurses and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compassionate, and efficient patient care.

Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to health & safety policies, reporting incidents, and following manual handling procedures.

Assist with stock control, documentation, unit organisation, mandatory training, and ongoing professional development.

Requirements

Leaving Certificate (or equivalent qualification) required

Healthcare FETAC Level 5 Qualification / QQI Major Award in Healthcare essential

Patient Care Support and Activities of Daily Living modules desirable

Previous experience in a healthcare, endoscopy, or theatre environment desirable but not essential

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills

Basic IT skills and familiarity with electronic patient record systems desirable

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Professional, caring, and compassionate approach to patient care

Commitment to maintaining patient dignity, confidentiality, and privacy at all times

Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development
