Job Description - Hydrologist / Water Resource Engineer - Mining

SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, working with clients to help make sustainability happen, within a collaborative, people‑first culture.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced mine water professional to join our established Mine Water team, delivering high‑profile water management and mining sector projects.

Based in Dublin or any of our UK/European offices, the role will focus primarily on integrated water management for mining projects, with additional exposure to international feasibility studies, operational improvements, due diligence and ESIA‑related work, as well as a small amount of other multi‑disciplinary project work spanning renewables, infrastructure, power, industrial and built‑environment sectors.

The Role

You’ll lead the delivery of integrated mine water management projects from planning through to detailed design, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams. The role includes:

  • Project and technical leadership – contributing specialist hydrology and water resource expertise across feasibility studies, operational improvements, due diligence, ESIA and closure planning.
  • Client management and proposal support – managing enquiries, liaising directly with clients, supporting bids, facilitating technical workshops and ensuring high‑quality project delivery.
  • Mentoring and coaching less experienced engineers and scientists – helping to build team capability, supporting resource planning and contributing to the strategic direction of the Mine Water team.
  • Desk‑based work alongside site visits across the UK, Ireland, Europe and internationally – including field assessments, site‑based reviews and collaboration with global colleagues.

You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Environmental and Earth Sciences, Planning, ESIA, Engineering and Global Advisory on complex and impactful mining projects, with opportunities for European and international exposure.

SLR’s ‘One Team’ culture is at the heart of our business, providing a collaborative and supportive environment for professional development. Through a structured career framework, regular performance reviews, and full support toward chartership, professional qualifications and licences, we offer outstanding opportunities for long‑term career progression.

Our flexible benefits & reward package includes:

  • Competitive salary with discretionary bonus
  • Company pension
  • Private medical insurance
  • Life, income, and travel insurance
  • Salary sacrifice car lease and cycle‑to‑work schemes

We believe sustainable careers need balance, so we offer:

  • Flexible, hybrid and agile working
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus flexible public holidays
  • Buy or sell leave options
  • Core working hours
  • Cross‑border remote working and sabbatical opportunities

Family life and wellbeing matter at SLR:

We provide enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave, access to an Employee Assistance Programme, and specialist support for mental health, stress and menopause—supporting our people both professionally and personally.

About You

You’ll bring:

  • Extensive experience delivering mine water, hydrology or water resource projects, ideally within mining or large‑scale infrastructure environments.
  • A degree in hydrology, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, geology, or a related field, with professional registration (CEng, CEnv or CSci).
  • Project management and stakeholder engagement experience, including client liaison, technical workshops and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Knowledge of relevant water management design codes, guidance and best‑practice standards for the mining and minerals sector.
  • Experience with water modelling and analytical tools such as rainfall‑runoff models, water balance modelling packages, hydraulic modelling software, and (desirable) GoldSim.
  • Strong technical reporting, numerical analysis and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to communicate clearly through reports, drawings, presentations and workshops.
  • A driving licence that permits you to legally drive in the UK (or Europe, if based there) for site visits.

Inclusion is fundamental to who we are. We are committed to equal opportunities and foster a workplace where everyone can thrive, supported by active Culture & Inclusion Committees and Employee Networks. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and are a Disability Confident Committed employer.
