IRFU Head of Procurement

The IRFU are inviting applications for the role of Head of Procurement.

The IRFU is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Procurement to lead and transform procurement across the organisation. This newly created role will be pivotal in leading a strategic procurement function that delivers value, ensures compliance, and supports financial sustainability across IRFU and the provinces.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a proven track record in procurement leadership, capable of building processes from the ground up and influencing stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.

The position is being offered on a full time permanent basis (subject to 6 month probation). The role will be based in our Head Office in 10-12 Lansdowne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. The IRFU operate a hybrid policy with 2 days minimum required in the office every week, which may increase at busy times.

Role Purpose

To lead a strategic Irish rugby procurement function that delivers value, strengthens governance, and supports financial sustainability across the IRFU and its provincial branches.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with IRFU’s financial and operational objectives.


• Lead all procurement activities across the organisation, including sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier management, and risk mitigation.


• Support central procurement in collaboration with Provinces, ensuring alignment, consistency, and value across all 5 entities where possible.


• Enhance procurement policies, procedures, and governance frameworks to ensure transparency, compliance, and efficiency.


• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand procurement needs and deliver cost-effective, value-enhancing solutions.


• Drive continuous improvement in procurement practices, including digital transformation, sustainability initiatives, and integration with IRFU ERP system.


• Manage key supplier relationships and performance, ensuring value for money and service excellence.


• Report regularly to the CFO on procurement performance, risks, and strategic initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Proven results in:
  
  
  
  • Leading procurement functions within complex, multi-stakeholder organisations
  
  
  • Developing and implementing procurement strategies that deliver measurable cost savings and operational efficiencies
  
  
  • Managing cross-functional projects and stakeholder engagement
  
  
  
  


• Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, contracting, supplier negotiation, and supplier management.


• Strong financial acumen and ability to work closely with finance leadership to align procurement with budgeting and forecasting processes.


• Wide-ranging experience across categories.


• Experience developing procurement shared services is a plus

Qualifications and essential criteria

• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field


• 8+ years’ experience in procurement across a range of categories


• 3+ years in a senior leadership role, managing strategic initiatives
