Manufacturing IT Specialist — Medical Devices — Longford — Permanent
We're hiring on behalf of a leading US multinational medical devices manufacturer with a significant and long-established operation in Co. Longford. This is an embedded IT role sitting at the intersection of manufacturing and technology — not a helpdesk position, and not a pure infrastructure role. You'll be working on the shop floor alongside Engineering, Operations, Technicians and Quality teams, keeping production-critical IT systems running.
The role: You'll provide first and second-line IT support across a busy manufacturing environment — covering the full range of production-related hardware, software and network infrastructure, with a particular focus on manufacturing systems including MES. When something goes down in a manufacturing environment, the pressure to restore it is immediate. You'll need to be someone who thrives in that environment, not someone who logs tickets and waits.
What you'll actually be doing:
Supporting Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and production-critical applications — working closely with Engineering and Operations to ensure manufacturing systems and equipment integrations remain stable and available
️ Providing first and second-line IT support for manufacturing and engineering teams — hardware, software, connectivity and network issues that impact production
Supporting and maintaining manufacturing PCs, laptops, thin clients, peripheral devices, barcode scanners, handheld/POD devices and label printing systems
️ Managing and troubleshooting network-connected printers and shop-floor printing infrastructure
Supporting remote access solutions, user account administration and Active Directory management
Deploying, configuring and upgrading IT hardware and software across manufacturing areas
Maintaining IT asset records and supporting cybersecurity, compliance and audit requirements
Participating in continuous improvement projects and technology upgrade programmes
What we need:
✅ Experience supporting IT infrastructure within a manufacturing or industrial environment — this is not an office IT role and the environment is genuinely different
✅ Working knowledge of MES platforms and industrial network environments — candidates with direct MES experience will be prioritised
✅ Degree, Diploma or equivalent experience in Information Technology or a related discipline
✅ Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, networking, printers and end-user devices
✅ Hands-on experience with remote support tools, Active Directory, device management and hardware deployments
✅ Strong troubleshooting instincts and a genuine customer service mindset — manufacturing teams need fast, practical answers, not process-heavy IT responses
✅ Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, operationally critical environment
Nice to have:
⭐ Experience in a medical device, pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment specifically
⭐ Experience supporting barcode printers, handheld terminals and shop-floor IT equipment
⭐ Knowledge of industrial networking and production systems integration
The reality of the role: Manufacturing IT is not the same as corporate IT. The stakes are higher, the pace is faster and the expectation that you resolve things quickly — without disrupting production — is real. MES knowledge puts you ahead in this process. If you're someone who is energised by that environment rather than unsettled by it, and you have the technical foundation to back it up — this is worth a conversation.
