Pig Farm Assistant (Farrowing Attendant) – Ireland

We are looking for skilled, experienced, and motivated Pig Farm Assistants with strong Farrowing experience to join our respected clients in Ireland.

This is a hands-on role primarily focused on the Farrowing and Breeding sections, where you will play a key role in ensuring the health and welfare of sows and newborn piglets while maintaining high standards of productivity, hygiene, and biosecurity.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily duties in the Farrowing and Breeding units.


• Assist sows before, during, and after farrowing.


• Monitor farrowing progress and provide assistance when required.


• Ensure newborn piglets receive proper care, including drying, fostering, iron injections, teeth clipping (where practiced), tail docking (where permitted), and identification/tagging.


• Perform Fostering.


• Monitor sow and piglet health and report any signs of illness or abnormalities.


• Administer vaccinations and medications as instructed.


• Feed and care for sows and piglets.


• Clean and maintain farrowing rooms, equipment, and work areas.


• Follow strict farm health, safety, and biosecurity procedures.


• Support other daily farm tasks as required.

Requirements

✅ 3–4 years of continuous, active and hands-on experience in the Farrowing section of a modern commercial pig farm.

✅ Experience working on farms with 500–2,500 sows at a single commercial site.

✅ Strong experience assisting with farrowing, piglet processing, fostering, and weaning management.

✅ Previous and current experience using automated feeding systems (manual feeding experience is also an advantage).

✅ Good understanding of sow management, piglet care, animal welfare, and farm biosecurity.

✅ Physically fit and able to perform manual farm work.

✅ Able to work independently and as part of a team.

✅ Willing to work in different weather conditions and farm environments.

✅ Positive attitude and good communication skills.
