This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer, Enterprise based in Ireland.
This role sits at the core of a high-scale enterprise platform, where backend systems directly enable secure, reliable, and compliant experiences for some of the world’s largest organizations. You will design and evolve distributed services that power mission-critical functionality used across enterprise customers globally. The work is highly cross-functional, involving close collaboration with product, security, legal, and infrastructure teams to translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions. You will take ownership of large-scale backend systems operating in production, with a strong focus on observability, reliability, and long-term scalability. Projects often span multiple teams and require breaking down ambiguous problems into clear, iterative delivery plans. This is an opportunity to shape foundational platform architecture in a fast-moving, AI-driven environment where engineering excellence is a priority.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain distributed backend services and platform components supporting enterprise customers at scale
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of production systems, including deployment, monitoring, incident response, and continuous reliability improvements
- Translate complex business, security, and regulatory requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions
- Lead the decomposition of large, ambiguous initiatives into structured, iterative engineering deliverables across multiple teams
- Build and enhance systems related to security, access control, data handling, multi-tenancy, and enterprise compliance requirements
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including product, infrastructure, security, and legal teams
- Define and track system health metrics, leveraging observability tools to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability standards are met
- Contribute to architectural decisions that ensure long-term platform evolution and support future enterprise growth
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with senior or staff-level responsibility in backend-focused roles
- Strong expertise in backend development and system design for distributed systems
- Proven experience operating production systems, including observability, incident management, and reliability engineering
- Background in enterprise-grade system development, including security, compliance, data governance, or platform engineering
- Experience working across multiple teams and driving complex technical initiatives end-to-end
- Strong understanding of scalable architecture principles and long-term system design thinking
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders across functions
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical projects is a strong advantage
