We are hiring a Staff Grade Medical Scientist to a Hospital in Limerick, Ireland. Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Positions Available:
1 Permanent position
1 Specific Purpose position (fixed-term contract linked to a particular project, leave cover, or service need)
Salary: â¬41,715 â â¬68,478 per annum, depending on relevant qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
Perform routine laboratory testing and analysis to the highest professional standards.
Process and handle all specimens in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Maintain the quality and accuracy of laboratory work in line with hospital policies and procedures.
Ensure strict confidentiality of all patient, laboratory, and hospital information.
Demonstrate professional conduct aligned with the hospitalâs core values.
Adhere to and promote quality standards in all laboratory activities.
Operate and monitor automated laboratory analysers, including Chemistry, Haematology, Immunoassay, and Blood Gas systems.
Manage and support Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) equipment and related processes.
Assist with the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory and POCT equipment.
Conduct additional laboratory investigations and tests as assigned by the Head of Department or Consultant.
Participate in internal and external quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) programmes.
Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure appropriate cleaning, decontamination, and housekeeping practices.
Accurately maintain laboratory records and documentation.
Engage in continuing professional development, education, and research activities.
Participate in the out-of-hours and on-call rota as required.
Comply with health and safety regulations and promote a safe working environment.
Ensure compliance with ISO 15189 standards, JCI Accreditation requirements, and applicable Medical Device Directives.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory quality, efficiency, and patient care.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Science (Applied Science) (Honours) or an equivalent recognised qualification.
Current registration with CORU.
Minimum of 6 months' experience working as a Medical Scientist in a clinical laboratory setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to promote and uphold a culture of Care, Compassion, and Commitment in line with the core values of Hospital System.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Flexible approach to working hours and shift patterns to meet service requirements.
Availability to work a roster typically scheduled across 5 days per week.
