We are currently seeking to fill a Fellowship Intern position in the Operational Partners unit, under Supply Chain and Delivery Division, based in Rome, Italy.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION
The Operational Partners Unit is the primary facilitator for collaboration with around 1,000 NGO cooperating partners globally. As WFP's central hub for managing and strengthening partnerships, the Operational Partners Unit is responsible for developing guidance and tools for partnership management. This includes digital tools, internal control measures and frameworks that support transparency, high operational standards, and compliance with WFP standards at country level. As the primary technical point of contact for partnership management, the Operational Partners Unit facilitates functional support and capacity strengthening to Country Offices related to corporate policies and guidance. The unit also maintains information and knowledge repositories and platforms to ensure up-to-date and accessible technical documentation.
In 2026, priorities for the Operational Partners Unit include:
•Enhanced support to Country Offices by providing updated guidance and tools;
•Standardized processes for monitoring and oversight of compliance to minimum assurance standards;
•Enhanced use of digital tools for partnership management and assurance.
The Fellowship Intern will be fully integrated into the Operational Partners Unit, working specifically within the Normative Guidance team as a Knowledge Management Intern. The role will focus on supporting and documenting knowledge-sharing and assurance initiatives in support of WFP’s humanitarian operations and engagement with cooperating partners at country level.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Contribute to knowledge management by documenting and disseminating learning sessions, new guidance, best practices and feedback.
•Maintain and organize the Operational Partners Unit knowledge management platforms, including repositories, webpages and contact lists to ensure that the most recent guidance is readily available and disseminated to the right audience.
•Support internal and external communication efforts by assisting with the preparation and development of various briefing materials and reports.
•Provide editorial support for the review of normative guidance documents, including - where relevant - translation into various languages.
•Prepare and participate in meetings and events, supporting coordination and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
•Take meeting minutes and perform other duties as required.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Be a Bachelor's student or a graduate in Communication, Data Analytics, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field.
•Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C). Working knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, plus Portuguese) is an asset.
•Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and analytical tools for data processing and reporting. Strong writing and editing skills.
TRAINING COMPONENTS
Throughout the assignment, selected candidates have access to an industry leading learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate. This will include:
•On-the-Job Training: The intern will receive hands-on training with the Normative Guidance Team and Supply Chain and Delivery colleagues, focusing on knowledge management and digital systems used for management of NGO partnerships within WFP.
•Corporate Training Modules: As part of the onboarding process, the intern will complete a structured set of training modules, providing a foundational understanding of WFP’s humanitarian mandate, operations, and the role of an international civil servant.
•NGO Partnership Management Onboarding: The intern will have access to online manuals, webinars and a tailored onboarding package, ensuring familiarity with corporate tools, processes, and key resources to effectively support their role.
LEARNING ELEMENTS
This Fellowship provides a unique opportunity to develop practical skills in partnership management, communication, risk management, gain valuable experience in a global humanitarian organization and build a strong professional network for a future career in international development and emergency response.
At the end of the assignment, the Fellow should obtain:
•Cross-Team Engagements: Through interaction with various technical teams, the Fellow will gain insights into different functional areas, strategies, and operational concepts in humanitarian response. This exposure will provide a comprehensive understanding of WFP’s operations and activities, particularly in the area of assignment.
•Case Studies & Strategic Analysis: The intern will develop skills in conducting analysis and drafting reports/briefing notes on key thematic areas related to NGO partnership management. Additionally, he/she will contribute to the development of normative guidance and learning materials, helping shape WFP’s approach to partnership management.
•Workshops & Webinars: Through participation in WFP workshops, webinars and key meetings, the Fellow will gain exposure to real-world discussions on humanitarian operations, partnerships, digital tools and innovation.
TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT
This opportunity is particularly well-suited for students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in an international organization. It offers valuable exposure to WFP’s operations and the chance to contribute meaningfully to its mission. The selected candidate will receive IT equipment and training material; however, financial compensation and medical coverage are not provided by WFP.
