BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION
Standby Partnership is part of the Supply Chain and Delivery Division in the World Food Programme, manages engagements with the Standby Partners, the organizations who maintain rosters of rapidly deployable staff with various expertise. The Partners cover cost of support in the form of personnel, equipment and/or services and ready to deploy within 72 hours for emergencies. This support allows WFP achieving efficient humanitarian response jointly with partners. To date, WFP has built agreements with a total of 31 governmental and non-governmental organizations and private sector entities. Top ten areas of expertise sourced through Standby Partners includes Cash Based Transfers, Supply Chain, Climate and Clean Energy, Telecommunication, Information Management, Engineering, Protection, Nutrition, Gender, Monitoring & Evaluation. WFP Standby Partnership team manages about 150 deployments in over 50 countries yearly.
The volunteer will work in the WFP Standby Partnership team, focusing on knowledge management in impact of the standby deployments across humanitarian operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance WFP Standby Partnership dedicated repository, containing the United Nations and WFP strategies, policies, reports, guidance and procedures, contacts, stories, photos and videos from deployments of personnel and service modules.
Conduct case studies for individual deployments; engage regularly with deployees in operations.
Contribute to better knowledge management through the identification, documentation and dissemination of good practices and lessons learned related to standby partnership and the impact on humanitarian operations.
Support maintenance of Standby Partnership dashboards, internal and external pages; support communication on social media.
Provide support to Standby Partnership’s meetings and events.
Take notes and meeting minutes as needed; and perform other duties as required
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s student in Communication, Data Analytics, Social Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office package, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
Language Proficiency: Excellent written and spoken English (Proficiency/Level C) is required. Additional language skills, particularly in French, Spanish, or Arabic, are an asset.
TRAINING COMPONENTS
Throughout their assignment WFP volunteers have access to WFP resources, policies, communication and advocacy material. Depending on opportunities, they may participate in WFP workshops, webinars and meetings, as appropriate.
The volunteer will have access to WFP Learning platform.
WFP requires that new appointees go through a set of training modules at the beginning of their service, helping thevolunteer to get a first understanding of our humanitarian work and their duties as an international civil servant.
Engagements with different technical teams through the assignment will provide good opportunitia to familiarize and learn about new areas, strategies and operational concepts.
The volunteer will go through the Operational Partners and SCD Communication’ onboarding programmes, which involves introduction to the corporate resources.
LEARNING ELEMENTS
At the end of the assignment, the Volunteer should obtain:
Very good knowledge of UN and WFP Standby Partnership framework
Skills conducting case studies and drafting concept notes in different thematic areas; supporting development of Standby Partnership strategy.
Familiarity with best practices in standby deployments.
Good general understanding of WFP’s overall operations and activities in the area of assignment.
