Senior Consultant / Manager - Payments Operations (Banking, PI & EMI)

The payments landscape is undergoing its deepest transformation in a decade. The Instant Payments Regulation, Verification of Payee, PSD3/PSR, DORA and the evolving safeguarding expectations of the CSSF are reshaping how banks, Payment Institutions and E-Money Institutions run their payments operations.

To answer the growing demand from our clients, the Banking Consulting department is strengthening its Payments team. We are looking for a Senior Consultant or Manager with strong operational payments expertise. You will join a team recognised on the Luxembourg market and connected to Deloitte's Global Payments network. You will help banks, PIs and EMIs design, run and improve their payments operations.

Your contribution to our success

• Assess and redesign payments operating models (Target Operating Models, process flows, roles and responsibilities, outsourcing set-ups)


• Lead or contribute to operational readiness for regulatory change: Instant Payments, Verification of Payee, PSD3/PSR, safeguarding


• Review and optimise payments back-office processes: payment processing, investigations and exceptions, returns and recalls, reconciliations, safeguarding, cut-off and liquidity management


• Design and strengthen the operational control framework, KPIs/KRIs and first-line controls, including fraud


• Act as the business bridge between operations, compliance and IT teams on payments transformation programmes, without leading the technical implementation


• Manage engagements and client relationships: scoping, staffing, delivery quality and budget follow-up


• Contribute to business development: proposals, client meetings, market eminence and thought leadership


• Coach and develop junior team members

Your skills

• 4-6 years of experience, in payments operations within a bank, a PI/EMI, a payment service provider or a consulting firm


• Strong knowledge of payments operations: SEPA SCT/SDD, SCT Inst, cross-border payments, cards, e-money issuance and wallets


• Good understanding of the regulatory framework: PSD2 and PSD3/PSR, EMD2, Instant Payments Regulation, AMLD, DORA, as well as the CSSF framework applicable to PIs and EMIs


• Hands-on experience in process redesign, operating model definition, controls and outsourcing


• Familiarity with market infrastructures and schemes (TARGET2/T2, STEP2, SWIFT, EPC rulebooks) is a strong asset


• Business-oriented profile: this role focuses on operations and processes, not on IT development or system implementation


• Strong analytical, structuring and communication skills, with the ability to engage with COOs, Heads of Operations and Compliance


• Fluent in English and French; German is an asset
