Overview

We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Application Architect to join our global Digital Platforms team. In this role you will own the strategic architecture of our enterprise application landscape - defining how systems, data, integrations, and AI-enabled capabilities fit together to support the business goals. You will develop a clear understanding of end-to-end business processes and translate them into a coherent target application landscape that is scalable, secure, and cost-efficient. The role is also accountable for ensuring application inventory tracking is meaningfully linked to the business process inventory, so technology decisions, rationalisation, and roadmaps are grounded in how the business operates. The ideal candidate combines deep enterprise application architecture expertise with strong hands-on understanding of business processes, application, integration, cloud, and emerging AI patterns, and can communicate equally well with engineers and senior business leaders.

Responsibilities

Enterprise Application Architecture

  • Design and maintain enterprise-wide application architecture frameworks and target-state roadmaps that align with business strategy.
  • Develop a deep understanding of core business processes and capabilities, and translate them into the target application landscape, identifying where standardisation, consolidation, automation, or new platform capabilities are required.
  • Define application architecture standards, reference architectures, and patterns for the Digital Platforms portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain architecture artifacts and models using tools such as Sparx EA and Lucidchart.
  • Maintain traceability between business capabilities, business processes, applications, and integrations so architecture decisions are anchored in operational reality and strategic priorities.
  • Identify, assess, and incorporate AI-enabled application patterns — including copilots, intelligent automation, retrieval-augmented experiences, and agent-based workflows — where they create clear business value.

Integration & Data

  • Architect integration solutions across applications using APIs, event-driven patterns, and middleware.
  • Partner with data and engineering teams to ensure application architecture supports robust data flows, quality, and governance.
  • Ensure data architecture is fit for AI use cases by defining requirements for data quality, metadata, lineage, access controls, and retrieval patterns needed for trustworthy AI solutions.

Governance & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain architecture governance policies, review boards, and decision records.
  • Ensure designs meet security, compliance, and regulatory requirements relevant to the business.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with business leaders, product owners, and IT teams to understand requirements and translate them into architecture solutions.
  • Communicate complex architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Technology Selection & Delivery Oversight

  • Evaluate and recommend technologies, platforms, and vendors that support business objectives.
  • Oversee the integration of new systems into the existing environment and provide architectural guidance throughout delivery.
  • Evaluate AI platforms and services for enterprise fit, balancing business value, data residency, security, interoperability, observability, and total cost of ownership.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Own and govern the enterprise application inventory, ensuring each application is linked to the relevant business processes and capabilities to support transparency, lifecycle management, rationalisation, and investment decisions.
  • Produce comprehensive architecture documentation, diagrams, and roadmaps.
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to senior management.

Qualifications

What You Bring To The Role

Technical Expertise

  • Proven experience in enterprise and application architecture across complex environments.
  • Proficiency in architecture modeling tools such as Sparx EA and Lucidchar.
  • Working knowledge of AI and generative AI architecture patterns, including LLM-based solutions, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector search, prompt design, agent orchestration, and AI-assisted workflow automation.
  • Exposure to security frameworks and architecture governance practices.
  • Solid grasp of integration patterns and technologies — REST APIs, event streaming, API gateways, iPaaS (e.g., Azure Integration Services), and middleware.
  • Familiarity with application development, IT infrastructure, identity & access management, and data architecture.
  • Awareness of modern data and DevOps tooling (e.g., Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Databricks, Snowflake) to architect across the full stack.

Analytical & Problem-Solving

  • Strong understanding of business processes and operating models, with the ability to map them into application capabilities, process-aligned target states, and linked inventories.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to anticipate architectural risks and propose solutions proactively.

Communication & Leadership

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, other languages are a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture initiatives, influence without authority, and drive organizational change.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to align technology with business goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 15 years of experience of which 7–10 years of experience in enterprise/application architecture or related roles.
  • TOGAF or COBIT certification strongly preferred.
