Ethics Compliance Counsel

Job Overview

The Ethics Compliance Counsel is an in-house legal and compliance position responsible for supporting the implementation of Weatherford’s ethics and compliance policies, procedures, and training across the Asia GeoZone.

Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Global Ethics, the role provides day-to-day legal and compliance guidance to business leaders and functional teams and supports key areas including anti-bribery and anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, anti-competition, FCPA requirements, human rights, third-party due diligence, internal investigations, and business conduct.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day ethics and compliance guidance to business leaders, Ethics Ambassadors, and functional teams across the Asia GeoZone.
• Interpret and apply Weatherford’s Code of Conduct and global ethics and compliance policies.
• Support compliance matters related to anti-bribery and anti-corruption, conflicts of interest, anti-competition, FCPA, human rights, and supplier codes of conduct.
• Lead or support internal investigations involving potential ethics violations, misconduct, bribery, corruption, or conflicts of interest.
• Conduct and review third-party due diligence for agents, distributors, consultants, suppliers, and business partners.
• Identify compliance risks and red flags and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
• Support regional ethics and compliance risk assessments, audits, monitoring activities, and corrective actions.
• Assist with the localization and implementation of global ethics policies in accordance with applicable local laws and regulations.
• Support the Asia Ethics Ambassador network through meetings, case discussions, communications, and regional coordination.
• Develop and deliver ethics and compliance training for employees, managers, and new hires.
• Monitor applicable anti-corruption and ethics legislation across the Asia GeoZone, including relevant requirements in China, Singapore, Malaysia, India, and other applicable jurisdictions.
• Collaborate with HR, Internal Audit, HSE, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and Operations on cross-functional compliance initiatives.
• Support regulatory inquiries, internal reviews, and external audits relating to ethics and compliance.
• Prepare reports on ethics metrics, compliance trends, risks, and program effectiveness for regional leadership.
• Participate in global ethics and compliance projects and support the harmonization of compliance practices across regions.

Skills

• Strong legal knowledge with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal and compliance advice.
• Strong understanding of ethics, compliance, anti-bribery, and anti-corruption principles.
• Experience with internal investigations, compliance risk assessments, and third-party due diligence.
• Knowledge of conflicts of interest, anti-competition, FCPA, human rights, and corporate ethics requirements.
• Strong legal research, analytical, investigation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret legislation and translate legal and compliance requirements into practical business guidance.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
• Ability to work effectively with regional and global stakeholders across different cultures and jurisdictions.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive legal and compliance matters.
• Compliance or ethics certification is an advantage, such as CCEP, ICA, CAMS, or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Qualified Lawyer / Attorney with a recognized Law degree and successful completion of the applicable Bar or professional qualification requirements.
• 4–8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
• Experience in Ethics & Compliance, Corporate Legal, Regulatory Compliance, or a related legal function.
• Experience in Oil & Gas, Energy, Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial, or another comparable regulated industry is preferred.
• Practical experience supporting anti-bribery and anti-corruption programs, investigations, or third-party due diligence is preferred.
• Experience working within a multinational organization or regional/global compliance environment is an advantage.
• Knowledge of applicable anti-corruption legislation across Asian jurisdictions is preferred.
• A professional certification in compliance, ethics, anti-corruption, or a related discipline is an advantage.
