Safety Manager

Company Background

Our client is a global leader in battery recycling and resource recovery, specializing in the recycling of lithium-ion batteries and extracting valuable materials.

We are looking for an experienced Safety Manager to oversee workplace safety, health and environmental compliance across the company. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant Malaysian safety and environmental regulations, managing safety initiatives, and supporting the company in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement and monitor workplace Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) policies, procedures and programs.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Department of Environment (DOE) requirements, environmental regulations and related statutory requirements.
• Liaise and coordinate with DOE and other relevant authorities on environmental compliance, inspections, submissions and related matters.
• Conduct regular workplace safety inspections, risk assessments and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Investigate workplace incidents, accidents and near misses, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Monitor and maintain proper safety and environmental documentation and records.
• Coordinate safety training, awareness programs, emergency response drills and toolbox meetings.
• Work closely with internal departments to identify potential safety and environmental risks and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001 requirements and documentation.
• Assist in internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings and corrective actions.
• Monitor environmental performance, waste management and relevant environmental control measures.
• Keep up to date with changes in Malaysian occupational safety, health and environmental regulations.
• Prepare safety and environmental reports for management review.
• Perform other safety and compliance-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in Safety, Health & Environmental, preferably within a manufacturing/industrial environment.
• Must have hands-on experience dealing with the Department of Environment (DOE) and relevant environmental compliance matters.
• Experience with ISO 9001 requirements, documentation and audit processes.
• Strong knowledge of Malaysian workplace safety and environmental regulations.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments, workplace inspections and incident investigations.
• Green Book / DOSH Registered Safety & Health Officer (SHO) qualification is an added advantage.
• Candidates with experience in chemical, recycling, manufacturing or other industrial environments will have an added advantage.
