The Mobility team is an established team responsible for the ride-hailing module in the Grab app. We improve the core transport booking experience.

We are working with high-volume data streams, real-time distributed systems, and machine learning pipelines that process hundreds of millions of data points per day. Our mission is to provide reliable, accessible data infrastructure that enables data-driven decision-making across the organization. Our team has direct impact on product insights, analytics capabilities, and the bottom line for Grab.

Get to Know the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. You will be reporting to Senior Engineering Manager. You will take ownership of designing, building, and optimizing critical data pipelines and infrastructure that power our analytics and machine learning platforms at scale. You will work with cross-functional teams to architect data solutions and manage our data infrastructure. The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will work with Product/Analytics/ML/Business Intelligence teams to understand data requirements, provide feedback on data architecture options, trade-offs, and implementation timelines.
• You will collaborate with Backend/Analytics/ML Engineers and Data Scientists to design and implement scalable data pipelines and infrastructure solutions that address business problems.
• You will build data pipelines and infrastructure that are reliable, maintainable, and performant. Ensure data quality and timely delivery of datasets to stakeholders.
• You will review data architecture designs and code, provide constructive feedback, and aim to raise the engineering bar for data systems.
• You will be responsible and responsive during on-call duty. Triage, debug, mitigate, and resolve complex data pipeline issues. Assist with ad hoc data requests from other teams.
• You will mentor junior data engineers and contribute to the team's overall growth and knowledge sharing.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You have Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, Statistics, or a related field
• You have 4+ years of professional data engineering experience in distributed systems environments
• You have proficiency in at least one data processing language (Python, Scala, Java, or similar)
• You have experience with computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and system design principles
• You have experience designing and building large-scale, high-throughput data pipelines and ETL systems
• You have solid knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, or similar)
• You have experience with cloud data platforms and infrastructure, AWS, including data warehousing solutions and auto-scaling capabilities
• You have experience with data pipeline orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Spark, Kafka, or similar)
• You have strong understanding of data modeling, data quality, and data governance principles
