The Development Capital team is a small, diverse and energetic team, with 8 members bringing different sector backgrounds, expertise and ways of thinking. The Development Capital team provides co-financing and project convening solutions for early-stage projects with the objective to make them financeable and/or to develop scalable innovative business models. The team supports Dutch companies with their international expansion by co-financing feasibility studies and pilots. The core sectors we operate in are Agri-Food, Climate and Energy, Healthcare, Sustainable Manufacturing, Water & Infra.
For the team, we are looking for a proactive, acquisition-oriented Associate Business Development Officer who is energised by independently sourcing new deals, developing them into high-quality transactions and by actively monitoring them once contracted.
Take ownership of Invest International’s vision, mission and values and the translation thereof into the Business Development strategy.
Identify, engage, and build relationships with Dutch (linked) companies to invest in early-stage impactful projects that contribute to sustainable development, strengthen resilience, support the current and future earning capacity, as well as the international competitiveness of the Netherlands.
Build a broad pipeline and close deals in a number the core sectors: actively participate in origination activities and take a leading role in structuring and executing investments, in cooperation with an ESG colleague, impact adviser and other specialists where needed.
Working closely with the public and private sector teams at Invest International to ensure the financing of such projects in a next phase.
Take an active role in pipeline development and knowledge sharing across Invest International.
Identify and develop quality transactions through selecting early- stage projects, engagement with acceptable consortia and advice on appropriate financial and transaction structures.
Develop these transactions through:
effective financial participation in feasibility studies/ pilots, Environmental and Social Impact studies (ESIA).
proper risk assessment of projects including financial and ESG risks and client onboarding.
co-defend your recommendation before the Engagement Committee (and Investment Committee), and conduct negotiations with the client.
contracting projects with a development capital solution.
Overall responsibility for the quality and timelines of monitoring your portfolio.
Strong affinity with the mission and vision of Invest International.
At least 3-5 years of experience in international business- and project development supported by a relevant network in these areas.
You are client-oriented and you speak “the language of the entrepreneur”. You have the ability to engage with clients at CFO/CEO and/or treasurer level.
Knowledge of or experience with working internationally, preferably with experience at the intersection of international finance, impact and development cooperation is a plus.
Ability to understand new environments swiftly and tailor the project development approach and processes aimed at ‘getting things done’.
Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch, both written and verbal.
Positive mindset and high energy level. Flexibility dealing with ambiguity and resilient with adversity.
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. You have a curious and proactive attitude.
Salary scale 15: this indicates a monthly gross salary range between €4,565 and €5.421, excluding holiday allowance and 13th month based on a 40-hour workweek.
A 12-month contract with the possibility of extension.
