Contract Duration


 


Visiting Professionals are required to work full time for a period of one to six months (to be agreed upon prior to commencement).


 


The Opportunity


 


The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individual charged with the gravest crimes of concerns to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of aggression. The Court is participating in the global fight to end impunity, and through international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent the crimes from happening again. You can contribute to this cause by joining the ICC.


 


Organisational Context


 


The Secretariat (SASP) provides the Assembly and its Bureau and subsidiary bodies with administrative and technical assistance in the discharge of their functions under the Statute.  The Secretariat provides substantive servicing of the Assembly and its subsidiary bodies. The substantive servicing functions include, inter alia, providing legal and substantive secretariat services, such as the provision of documentation, reports and analytical summaries, and supplying advice within the Secretariat on legal and substantive issues relating to the work of the Assembly.


 


Duties and Responsibilities


 


Under the supervision of the Director of the Secretariat of the Assembly of States Parties, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:



  • Support the team by conducting legal research and analysis, contributing to the preparation of legal advice, studies, and documentation.

  • Assist in drafting, formatting, and reviewing legal documents, summaries, and internal reports.

  • Take notes during meetings and assist in the preparation of reports of meetings of the subsidiary bodies of the Assembly, i.e. summarize discussions, highlighting key points and various perspectives for further analysis.

  • Assist in drafting and editing correspondence, letters, and notes, ensuring all relevant information is accurately included and clearly presented.

  • Provide support with various ad hoc tasks as requested, offering general assistance to the legal team as needed.


 


Essential Qualifications


 


Education:


All candidates must have a first level university degree from an accredited university in law, preferably with specialization in international or humanitarian law. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance.


 


Experience:


Visiting Professional placements focus on candidates who have extensive experience in their professional careers in relevant fields of work. Practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court may be considered an asset. Candidates for a Visiting Professional placement must have at least 3 (three) years of relevant professional experience.


 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.

  • Possesses strong teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).

  • Very good oral communication and drafting skills.

  • Has acquired a good standard of computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications) and research skills (including the use of electronic databases).


 


Knowledge of Languages:


Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, English or French is required. Proficiency or working knowledge of the other is strongly desired. Knowledge of another working language of the Assembly (Arabic or Spanish) would be considered as an asset.

Remuneration


 


Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement.


 


Applicants should therefore be able to support themselves for the duration of their internship or placement.
