Job Description - Editing Intern

Role Summary
This position is designed to cultivate the essential editorial judgment, linguistic precision, and verification protocols necessary for aspiring professionals to excel as editors. The role serves as a foundational training ground where individuals will develop the critical skills required to maintain high-quality publishing standards.

     Key Responsibilities
*   Assist senior editors in the preparation of content, including proofreading and fundamental editing tasks.
*   Review material for grammatical accuracy, spelling, punctuation, structural integrity, clarity, and consistency.
*   Validate specific details such as names, dates, statistics, hyperlinks, citations, and basic factual assertions.
*   Acquire proficiency in HumAngle's specific style guide, editorial guidelines, and publication workflows.
*   Detect inconsistencies, ambiguities, unsubstantiated claims, and potential ethical dilemmas within the text.
*   Provide support in crafting headlines, captions, summaries, and other essential publication components.
*   Study and learn from the techniques senior editors use to refine structure, argumentation, narrative flow, and context.
*   Engage actively in editorial meetings, training sessions, and story review processes.
*   Ensure content accuracy while managing strict deadline pressures.
*   Progressively take on the editing of more complex manuscripts under the guidance of senior staff.

 Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the internship, candidates will possess a comprehensive understanding of the full editorial lifecycle. They will demonstrate the capability to independently edit straightforward content to meet publication standards, while accurately identifying when a piece requires the oversight of senior editorial judgment.

 Candidate Profile
Applicants must possess a strong command of written English, a keen eye for detail, a habit of extensive reading, and a clear passion for journalism and editing. Prior professional experience in editing is not a prerequisite.
