Job Description - Budget Coordinator

Established in 2020 through the merger of Auckland Clinical Studies (ACS) and Christchurch Clinical Studies Trust (CCST), NZCR is at the forefront of early-phase clinical research in New Zealand. With over 35 years of combined research excellence, we have successfully completed 750 trials involving 15,000 participants, showcasing our commitment to advancing medical research. Partnering with global pharmaceutical and biotech companies, we deliver excellence in clinical research and explore potential new medicines.

The role

Full-Time, Permanent

Play a key role in supporting the financial success of clinical trials by coordinating study budgets and contracts that help bring innovative research to New Zealand.

We are looking for a commercially minded and detail-oriented Budget Coordinator to join our Business Development team.

In this role, you'll coordinate and manage clinical trial budgets throughout the study lifecycle, ensuring budgets remain accurate, financially viable, and aligned with study requirements. Working closely with the Contracts Manager, Clinical Operations, Finance, sponsors, and CROs, you'll manage budget amendments, monitor study expenditure, coordinate budget approvals, and support the administration of clinical trial agreements to help ensure studies are delivered efficiently and compliantly.

You'll play an important role in balancing financial accuracy with operational needs, building strong relationships across the business while ensuring budgets, contracts, and financial processes are well managed. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys analysing data, solving problems, and working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment where no two studies are the same.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in business, finance, commerce, science, health, or a related discipline.

  • Experience coordinating budgets, financial administration, contracts, or project finances, ideally within clinical research, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or another regulated environment.

  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyse budgets, monitor expenditure, and identify financial risks and opportunities.

  • Excellent analytical skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with confidence working across financial and contract management systems.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with sponsors, CROs, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of Clinical Trial Agreements (CTAs), clinical trial budgeting, or Good Clinical Practice (GCP) would be advantageous but is not essential.
