Café Assistant

Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a Café Assistant to help keep our staff café running smoothly, safely and with a friendly face. Reporting to the Safety and Wellbeing Manager, you’ll prepare and serve food and beverages, keep the café looking sharp, support stock control and admin, and make sure every customer has a great experience.

This is a part-time, hands-on role. Current hours are typically 6.00am to 1.00pm, with some flexibility available.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food and beverages in line with hygiene, quality and presentation standards.
• Welcome and serve customers, creating a positive and efficient café experience.
• Keep food cabinets, service areas and back-of-house spaces clean, tidy, stocked and secure.
• Support stock takes, supplier ordering, staff account recording and payroll deduction updates.
• Follow all health, safety, environmental and quality processes, and speak up when something is not right.

• Previous barista experience and strong customer service skills.
• Experience with cash handling, stock control and basic administration.
• Good computer skills, with the ability to complete records and ordering accurately.
• A proactive, organised approach with the ability to manage changing priorities and stay calm under pressure.
• A team-focused attitude, strong attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to safety, respect and doing the right thing.
