Companion Animal Veterinarian Leadership Opportunity

Job Description - Companion Animal Veterinarian Leadership Opportunity

VetSouth's Winton clinic is looking for an experienced companion animal vet ready to lead. You will mentor our clinical team, help shape how the practice grows and have real input on how our Companion Animal division operates day-to-day. This role would suit a vet who is already in a leadership role or someone who has 4+ years' experience and wants to step into a leadership position within the next 12 months.

About the role

  • Lead and mentor a team of mixed animal vets, new grads and 4 vet nurses, supporting their clinical development

  • Carry a full-time FTE companion animal caseload, including surgery, dentistry, ultrasound and consultations.

  • Work with the practice team on business planning, client experience and growth

About you

  • BVSc or equivalent, registered (or eligible for registration) with the NZ Veterinary Council

  • At least 4 years' companion animal experience, with confidence in consultation and surgery

  • Strong communication and relationship skills, with the ability to work well with colleagues at every level and deliver excellent client service

  • Commercial awareness, such as understanding of client growth and retention, practice performance and team management

  • A genuine interest in being part of a community-focused business

What we offer

  • Competitive salary negotiated on experience, plus an annual $2200 CPD budget

  • Relocation support and accommodation assistance

  • A well-established, respected practice with strong roots in the Winton community and rural surrounds

  • A supportive team that values collaboration, respect and genuine care

  • Defined leadership progression and mentoring

  • Southland lifestyle: beaches, rivers and mountains on your doorstep, with skiing, hiking and mountain biking close by. Winton is about 30 minutes from Invercargill and housing is a fraction of the price you'd pay in the main centres.

We care for animals with compassion, empathy and respect, and we genuinely enjoy working together. If that sounds like the team you would like to build your career with, we'd love to hear from you.

For a confidential chat about the role, please feel free to send us an email at [email protected] and the team will be in touch.

Applications are reviewed as they arrive, so don't wait.
