Consultancy Project Manager

Job Description - Consultancy Project Manager

About Frequency:

Frequency is a New Zealand-owned specialist project advisory consultancy. We work alongside clients to plan and deliver major infrastructure across transport, health, education, airports, ports, and water — bringing experienced people in early and leaving clients better equipped to navigate complex project pathways.

The Opportunity:

We have an opportunity for an Intermediate Project Manager to join our growing Dunedin team, supporting the delivery of a range of Buildings and Infrastructure projects across design, procurement, contract management, and delivery. This role suits someone who has built a solid foundation in project delivery and is ready to take on greater ownership, working closely with senior project managers and clients to keep projects moving and outcomes on track.

You’ll manage day-to-day delivery on smaller projects and work packages independently, while contributing to larger projects under the guidance of senior team members. It’s a great next step for someone looking to build their consulting skills and grow toward more senior delivery roles.

What You'll Focus On:

  • Managing the day-to-day delivery of projects and work packages to meet client needs, scope, budget, and programme

  • Supporting the development of Project Management Plans aligned with clients’ needs and objectives

  • Assisting with the identification, management, and mitigation of project risks and issues

  • Supporting procurement processes and contract administration, including exposure to NZS3910 and/or NZS3916 contracts

  • Coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors to keep projects on track

  • Preparing project reporting, tracking budgets, and monitoring performance against programme

  • Building strong working relationships with clients and project teams

  • Working closely with senior project managers, taking on increasing ownership as experience grows

What Sets You Up For Success:

  • Circa 3–5 years’ project management experience in New Zealand, ideally within a client-side or consultancy environment

  • Relevant tertiary industry qualifications

  • Experience working on building-related and/or infrastructure projects

  • Growing experience across design, procurement, and contract management phases

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects within clearly defined scopes to achievable schedules and budgets

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to adapt style to suit different audiences

  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to identify risks and issues early

  • A genuine appetite to learn, take feedback on board, and continue developing your career

  • Enjoys working with people and building relationships through project teams and clients

How We Work (And How You'll Grow):

We’re office-first, because in-person collaboration accelerates learning, strengthens relationships, and helps us solve problems faster. You’ll generally work between our Dunedin office and client or project sites, staying close to the work and the people who matter. Flexibility is supported where it makes sense.

We’re also intentional about development at Frequency. You’ll be supported through structured pathways that build both delivery capability and consulting confidence — with clear expectations at each stage and practical support to help you progress. That includes regular coaching and mentoring from senior leaders, and opportunities to take on greater ownership as you grow.

What You'll Get:

  • Five weeks’ annual leave

  • 5% KiwiSaver

  • Enhanced parental leave

  • Wellbeing benefit

  • EAP for you and your whānau

  • Daily office kai (snacks plus breakfast/lunch food)

  • Strong learning and development support — training budgets, professional memberships, and internal forums

  • Clear development pathways with coaching from senior practitioners, exposure to varied projects, and opportunities to grow your consulting and leadership capability over time

If you’re an experienced project professional looking to take the next step with a supportive Dunedin team, we’d love to hear from you.

Eligibility:

To apply, you must be a New Zealand citizen, resident, or already have the right to work in New Zealand.
