Texel Air seeks an experienced and highly capable Director of Flight Operations to lead the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of flight operations, ground operations, and aviation security across our Air Operator Certificate (AOC) operations.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for maintaining operational control, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting safety performance, and providing clear direction across operational teams. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Executive, operational leaders, regulatory authorities, service providers, and internal stakeholders to ensure Texel Air continues to deliver safe and effective aviation operations.

About the role

As Director of Flight Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring all operations are conducted in accordance with approved manuals, operational specifications, company procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements. You will provide integrated oversight across flight operations, ground operations, and aviation security, while ensuring effective coordination between flight crew, dispatch, ground handling, and security functions.

Key Criteria:

• Maintain operational control and oversight of flights conducted under the AOC


• Lead and oversee flight operations, ground operations, and aviation security functions


• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, operational specifications, approved manuals, and company policies


• Support safety performance, risk management, incident reporting, and continuous improvement


• Oversee operational personnel, including recruitment, training, competency, development, and performance


• Ensure operational documentation, procedures, and manuals remain current, controlled, and compliant


• Coordinate with regulatory authorities, service providers, contractors, and industry stakeholders


• Provide leadership during emergencies and ensure escalation and response procedures are applied


• Support operational strategy, resource planning, budgeting, and performance oversight

About you

You will be an experienced aviation professional with strong operational leadership capability, sound regulatory knowledge, and a clear commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement. You will be confident working in a complex aviation environment and able to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and make sound operational decisions under pressure.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

• An appropriate ATPL licence and current B737-800 rating


• Minimum flight hours - 2000-3000 hours PIC
  


• Recent senior aviation leadership experience, ideally as a Director of Flight Operations and/or Chief Pilot


• Strong knowledge of New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority requirements and safe operating practices


• Experience overseeing aircraft operations, operational compliance, safety, training, and personnel capability


• Previous cargo operations experience, which would be advantageous


• Excellent communication, leadership, planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills


• A professional, reliable, and safety-focused approach, with strong integrity and sound judgement
