Ormiston Hospital is seeking a Hauora Māori Engagement Lead to provide cultural leadership, strengthen relationships with Māori communities, and support equitable health outcomes for Māori patients and whānau.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, with a dotted line to the Quality and Risk Manager, this full-time role will support quality improvement, patient and whānau experience, staff education, certification requirements, and the Hauora Māori Committee.
You will help embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori, tikanga Māori, and Māori perspectives into our services, policies, and decision-making. You will also provide cultural support and guidance for Māori patients and whānau, working alongside clinical and hospital teams to support respectful, culturally safe care.
A key focus will be building trusted relationships with mana whenua, iwi, hapū, Māori providers, and community partners, and representing Ormiston Hospital at hui, wānanga, and community events. You will also work with SCHL National Office Pasifika Lead to support meaningful engagement with Pasifika communities.
About You
Demonstrated experience working with Māori communities, iwi, hapū, Māori organisations, and/or Māori providers.
Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori, tikanga Māori, and mātauranga Māori, and how these apply in a health or organisational context.
Experience providing strategic advice and practical guidance to leaders and teams.
Strong relationship management, engagement, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with iwi, hapū, whānau, and other stakeholders, lead hui, and prepare clear written advice.
Proven ability to build trust, influence without authority, and work effectively across diverse communities and organisations.
Experience in engagement, community development, policy, service development, Māori health, the health system, or the wider social sector.
Administration experience, competent in Microsoft Office, and excellent customer service skills.
A relevant tertiary qualification in Māori studies, Māori health, public policy, social sciences, community development, or equivalent experience would be highly regarded.
Experience in the private health system would be an advantage.
