This is a fantastic opportunity for a Hydrology, Stormwater & Flooding Engineer to join our national water team in Christchurch or Wellington. Other locations where GHD has a presence will also be considered for the right candidate. 

 

About the role: 

This role will see you contributing to the planning, analysis and design of hydrology, stormwater and flood management solutions across a range of infrastructure and advisory projects. You will work within multi-disciplinary teams, supporting project delivery while continuing to develop your technical capability and professional judgement.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure and advisory projects across planning, investigation, modelling and design phases 

  • Undertake hydrological and hydraulic analysis, including catchment modelling and flood assessment  

  • Contribute to stormwater design, flood risk assessments, and integrated water management solutions

  • Develop good business relationships with existing and potential clients to ensure required project outcomes are met and client satisfaction is maintained at a high standard.   

  • Preparation of high-quality reports, correspondence and other deliverables, as required.

  • Perform office and site-based roles, including working with virtual teams across GHD offices nationally and internationally.

  • Provide guidance to graduate design engineers on projects and be able to train and mentor them.

  • At least 4 years’ experience in hydrology, stormwater or flood modelling within a consulting or infrastructure environment 

  • Working knowledge of hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks, Tuflow, or similar) 

  • Understanding of New Zealand standards, guidelines and regulatory frameworks relating to stormwater and flood management 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail 

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Organised in multitasking of self and others and able to meet deadlines

  • Ability to be proactive and take ownership of tasks and projects

  • Self-motivated and energetic 

  • Flexibility in your approach to challenges

About you:

You are a developing professional with a solid technical foundation and a desire to grow your capability in hydrology and water engineering. You bring curiosity, collaboration and accountability to your work, and are motivated to contribute to outcomes that benefit communities and the environment.

 

What you will bring:

  • At least 4 years’ experience in hydrology, stormwater or flood modelling within a consulting or infrastructure environment 

  • Working knowledge of hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools (e.g. HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks, Tuflow, or similar) 

  • Understanding of New Zealand standards, guidelines and regulatory frameworks relating to stormwater and flood management
