Job Description - La Zeppa - Sous Chef

The Business


La Zeppa serves up spectacular sundeck sessions for those epic alfresco vibes. Our restaurant and bar is fun at heart, seamlessly transitioning from day to night, and beyond. Our cuisine is inspired by flavours from the Med, with menus and spaces perfect for the most intimate dinners and monumental occasions.  Casual beers or champagne cheers, it's always on!


 


The Role


This is a position which requires you to set an example in the kitchen with your exemplary cooking skills, and maintaining the highest of standards.



Your main responsibilities include:



  • Completing ordering and stocktaking to plan and manage food costs

  • Monitoring quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation

  • Discussing food preparation issues with managers, kitchen and waiting staff

  • Demonstrating techniques and advising on cooking procedures

  • Preparing and cooking food to a consistently high standard

  • Understanding the food control plan and understanding the cleaning standards and processes within the kitchen

  • Ensure all food is prepped and portion controlled prior to service to ensure no food prep is required to be completed during service

  • Ensuring clear communication between the kitchen, front of house and head office



This is a permanent full-time position of an average of least 30 hours per week with a maximum of 60 hours per week.



Skills / Experience 


We are looking for an energetic, flexible and hard working candidate.



The ideal candidate will be someone with:



  • A passion for food and providing experiences

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong leadership and culinary skills

  • Energy and enthusiasm to share with your team

  • Proven experience in a fast paced high end kitchen environment



  • A relevant qualification at Level 2 or above of the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF); and/or at least 2 years of relevant experience
