Te Tūranga/About the Role

Silver Fern Farms Hāwera are looking for a motivated and skilled Maintenance Electrician to join our wider engineering team, responsible for the hands-on day to day electrical reliability improvements, repairs and maintenance within our strong, stable and progressive engineering team. 

Our maintenance team works 45 hours per week, on a two-week rotating roster, Monday to Friday, day shift is between the hours of 5am and 4pm, whilst night shift is 2.30pm and 2am. You will have the opportunity to be involved in projects and installation of new site equipment as well as a wide range of electrical applications across the site. Ōu Pūkenga /About You:

Previous experience in FMCG or transferrable production environments would be an advantage, but the key is the ability to work as part of a team, to identify faults and use analytical and problem-solving skills to provide top level service to the processing plant.  Working in a sole charge capacity, all the while being entrenched as part of a maintenance team, candidates will have good interpersonal skills and an attitude for getting stuck in to get the job done as well as thinking outside of the box – we appreciate and encourage new ideas and thought processes about how we can collaborate across our site to ensure the get to the root cause of issues and fix it right – first time. 

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Relevant Trades Qualification and Full NZ EWRB Electrical registration
  • Good knowledge of sound electrical principals and repairs and maintenance procedures on a large industrial processing site – or a passion to learn in this environment.
  • Exposure to PLC and VSDs in a past role
  • Ability to analyse problems and implement effective solutions in a timely manner and communicate this with those around you. 
  • Be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and within a tight knit team of engineering support 
  • Organised, with the ability to plan and prioritise workload in a challenging engineering environment and lead by example from the front. 
  • Desire to keep learning and upskill – be this in a leadership scope or dual trading into refrigeration or even project design.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough diagnostics and troubleshooting of electrical issues.
  • Perform pre-operational checks to ensure the plant's electrical systems are functioning optimally.
  • Develop and implement project plans to enhance electrical safety and compliance.
  • Collaborate with other trades to create a cohesive and efficient maintenance strategy.
  • Maintain open communication with the team to ensure a proactive and responsive approach to maintenance.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and regulations to ensure our plant remains at the forefront of electrical safety.
  • Provide training and guidance to less experienced team members on electrical safety protocols.
  • Assist in budgeting and cost-control measures for electrical maintenance projects.
  • Ensure timely reporting and documentation of all electrical maintenance activities.


Qualifications
  • Registered Electrician with a valid license to practice.
  • Proven industrial experience, preferably in the food industry or FMCG sector.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for electrical systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of tradespeople.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety regulations and best practices.
  • Willingness to stay updated with industry advancements and new technologies.
  • Basic project management skills for planning and executing maintenance projects.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
