Key Responsibilities

  • Operate asphalt pavers safely and efficiently on a variety of surfacing projects.
  • Set up and adjust the paver to achieve specified widths, depths, and paving levels.
  • Monitor material flow and mat quality to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Perform daily pre-start inspections, routine servicing, and basic maintenance of plant.
  • Identify and report mechanical faults or maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with the paving crew, roller operators, truck drivers, and supervisors to maintain production targets.
  • Maintain accurate records as required, including pre-start checks and maintenance documentation.
  • Follow all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Requirements: Qualifications & Licences

  • Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver Licence WTR endorsements.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in Civil road construction industry.

    OR

  • A level 4 industry qualification (Work experience can replace a formal qualification).

Desirable:

  • Strong understanding of paving operations, asphalt materials, and quality requirements.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate clearly.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including night shifts and occasional weekends when required.
  • Class 2 licence and WTR endorsements preferred but not required.
