Looking for meaningful casual work where you can make a genuine difference?


The Christchurch City Mission is seeking compassionate and reliable Support Workers to join our Residential Withdrawal Management Service (Thorpe House) on a casual basis.



Thorpe House provides a short-term residential withdrawal management service for people seeking support to begin their recovery journey. As a casual team member, you'll play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for residents during a critical time in their lives.



About the Role


As a Support Worker within our Residential Withdrawal Management Service, you'll work alongside people who are taking positive steps towards recovery. You'll support residents in their day-to-day activities, contribute to a safe and therapeutic environment, maintain accurate records, and provide practical and emotional support throughout their stay.


This is a casual position, providing cover for planned and unplanned leave. Shifts may be available across weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.



What You'll Do



  • Support residents throughout their stay in a safe and therapeutic environment. 

  • Assist with resident admissions, discharges, and referrals.

  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation.

  • Encourage residents to engage with treatment, support services, and recovery planning.

  • Contribute to the day-to-day operation and presentation of Thorpe House.

  • Promote a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for residents and colleagues.



What You'll Bring



  • A Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience working with people experiencing addiction, homelessness, or other complex challenges.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A calm, practical approach and the ability to respond effectively in challenging situations.

  • An understanding of social justice, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and person-centred practice.

  • Confidence using technology and maintaining accurate records

  • Alignment with the values and mission of the Christchurch City Mission
