Taiao Coordinator

Mangatu Blocks Incorporation is seeking a Taiao Coordinator to join our Gisborne-based team in a newly established role supporting the delivery of our taiao vision, strategy and environmental priorities.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will work closely with the Committee of Management, operational teams, shareholders and external partners to coordinate environmental initiatives across Mangatu’s whenua and wider operations.

About the Role

This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable walking in many worlds – from the whenua and environment, to our shareholder community, through to the commercial and operational parts of the organisation.

You will help coordinate the implementation of Mangatu’s Taiao strategy and annual action plan, working alongside our farming, forestry and wider Group teams.

Your work will include:

• Coordinating taiao projects, environmental work programmes and annual priorities.


• Supporting environmental monitoring, compliance, audits and reporting.


• Providing practical environmental advice and support to operational teams.


• Helping integrate sustainable land management, biodiversity and environmental considerations into everyday activities.


• Preparing environmental information, reports and presentations for the Committee and shareholders.


• Supporting engagement with shareholders and ensuring their taiao aspirations are captured through planning and reporting.


• Building relationships with iwi, councils, environmental organisations, technical specialists, contractors and other partners.


• Using technology, mapping and environmental information to support monitoring and decision-making.


• Spending time out on the whenua undertaking field measurements and monitoring, as well as working with stakeholders and preparing information and reports.

About You

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in te taiao, whenua and sustainable land management, combined with the ability to organise work, build relationships and get things done.

You may already have experience in environmental management, natural resources, farming, forestry or conservation, or you may be developing your career in this area and looking for an opportunity where you can make a practical contribution.

Ideally, you will bring experience coordinating environmental projects or initiatives, preparing reports and maintaining good records, and working collaboratively with a range of people. Knowledge of farming, forestry, biodiversity, sustainable land management or environmental protection would be valuable.

A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable, but equivalent practical experience will also be considered. Experience with GIS or mapping, environmental monitoring, Māori land organisations, regional councils, carbon, freshwater or biodiversity projects would also be an advantage.
