About Us – Christchurch City Mission

The Christchurch City Mission (Te Whare Mīhana Ki Ōtautahi) helps anyone in need, no matter their situation. We work alongside people going through tough times—whether it’s due to job loss, housing issues, addiction, family difficulties, or financial stress.

About the role

• Casual hours, offered as needed across peak periods and holiday cover


• Hands-on work across our Foodbank warehouse and self-serve supermarket


• A supportive team environment where reliability, communication, and initiative matter


• Meaningful work helping create a welcoming and dignified experience for people accessing support

About you - What you’ll be doing

• Keeping warehouse and supermarket areas tidy, organised, and running smoothly


• Supporting stock movement, packing, shelving, and general Foodbank operations


• Working alongside volunteers and helping guide day-to-day tasks


• Supporting clients respectfully and calmly, especially during busy periods


• Communicating clearly with the team and adapting as priorities change

About you - What you’ll bring

• You’re a university student, holiday worker, or someone looking for flexible casual hours


• You’re physically capable and comfortable lifting up to 25kg


• You stay steady under pressure and can switch between tasks quickly


• You communicate well and enjoy working with people from all walks of life


• You bring maturity, empathy, and good boundaries to your work


• You understand the importance of dignity, respect, and practical support in community services

Essential skills & experience

• Experience in retail, warehousing, supermarket, hospitality, volunteering, or another busy customer-facing environment would be helpful


• Confidence working alongside volunteers, team members, and people from a wide range of backgrounds


• A full driver licence is helpful, and a forklift licence would be an advantage


• Physically capable and comfortable with regular lifting, moving stock, and being on your feet during busy shifts


• Strong communication, teamwork, reliability, and a willingness to pitch in where needed
