Job Summary

The Assistant Accounting Manager supports the Accounting Manager in overseeing the daily accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, effective internal controls, and efficient financial processes. This role plays a critical part in managing accounting activities related to waste collection, recycling, disposal, treatment, environmental services, fleet operations, and fixed asset management.

The Assistant Accounting Manager supervises accounting staff, assists in financial planning and analysis, and contributes to improving financial performance through effective cost monitoring and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Review and validate general ledger transactions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Support month -end and year -end closing activities to ensure timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain accounting records in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Management
  • Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Monitor vendor payments, customer billing, and collection activities.
  • Review aging reports and coordinate collection efforts for overdue accounts.
  • Ensure proper documentation and approval of financial transactions.
Cost Accounting and Operational Support
  • Assist in monitoring operational costs related to waste collection, hauling, transportation, recycling, treatment, and disposal activities.
  • Analyze operating expenses, including fuel, maintenance, labor, and equipment costs.
  • Support profitability analysis for service contracts, customers, projects, and business units.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
Fixed Asset Management
  • Maintain records of company assets, including vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery, facilities, and landfill infrastructure.
  • Assist with asset capitalization, depreciation, transfers, and disposals.
  • Coordinate periodic physical asset verification and inventory counts.
Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Monitor budget utilization and analyze variances.
  • Work closely with department heads to gather financial information and operational assumptions.
  • Prepare financial analyses to support management decision -making.
Compliance and Internal Controls
  • Ensure adherence to established accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in preparing schedules and supporting documents for external and internal audits.
  • Support tax compliance, government reporting requirements, and statutory filings.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting processes and internal control procedures.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Supervise and provide guidance to accounting staff.
  • Review the work of accountants and accounting assistants.
  • Assist in training, coaching, and developing team members.
  • Serve as acting Accounting Manager in their absence when required.



Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 4–6 years of accounting experience.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in waste management, environmental services, logistics, manufacturing, construction, or similar operational industries is preferred.
Technical Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with IFRS, GAAP, and local tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and data analysis.

Working Conditions
  • Primarily office -based with occasional visits to waste collection sites, transfer stations, recycling facilities, treatment plants, and landfill operations.
  • May require extended working hours during closing periods, audits, budget preparation, and major financial projects.
