Job Description - Duty Engineer

At Quest Plus Conference Center Clark, we believe that exceptional guest experiences begin behind the scenes. We are looking for a highly motivated and solutions-oriented Duty Engineer to lead our engineering operations and ensure our facilities remain safe, efficient, and operating at the highest standards.

As a Duty Engineer, you will oversee the daily engineering operations of the property, lead a team of Shift Engineers, and play a vital role in maintaining the hotel's critical systems while supporting seamless guest experiences.

What You'll Do
Engineering Operations:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Engineering Department, including plant room operations and the supervision of Shift Engineers.
  • Ensure the continuous delivery of 24/7 engineering support across the property to maintain uninterrupted hotel operations.
  • Respond promptly to engineering-related concerns, including:
    • Guest room maintenance requests
    • Emergency breakdowns
    • Function and banquet requirements
    • Public area concerns
    • Telephone-generated complaints
    • Work order requests from various departments
  • Act as the Engineer-in-Charge during shifts and assume the responsibilities of the Assistant Chief Engineer in their absence.
Preventive Maintenance & Technical Oversight:
  • Review and analyze daily engineering operation logs to monitor equipment performance and identify operational trends.
  • Evaluate equipment readings, instrument accuracy, and utility consumption to promote efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and plant equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Prepare and monitor service requests for equipment deficiencies, including:
    • Faulty gauges and instrumentation
    • Loose belts and noisy bearings
    • Excessive machine vibration
    • Electrical safety concerns
    • Machine room housekeeping deficiencies
  • Ensure proper preventive maintenance schedules are implemented and completed on time.
  • Maintain accurate equipment records, fixed asset inventories, and asset tagging for engineering equipment.
Leadership & Coordination:
  • Supervise, coach, and coordinate the daily activities of Shift Engineers and Engineering team members.
  • Work closely with Service Managers, Service Leaders, and other departments to prioritize maintenance requirements and operational needs.
  • Coordinate with accredited contractors and suppliers, including sourcing quotations and monitoring outsourced work.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee engineering-related projects and special assignments requested by hotel management.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation:
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe plant rooms, machine rooms, electrical rooms, and engineering workspaces.
  • Ensure proper identification and tagging of electrical breakers, panels, and equipment loads to promote workplace safety.
  • Review engineering manuals, technical drawings, preventive maintenance documentation, and equipment records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Compile and maintain engineering logbooks, operational reports, and maintenance documentation.
Performance & Continuous Improvement:
  • Monitor and improve Engineering Service Request performance through regular review of:
    • SARA completion rates
    • Resolution turnaround times
    • Action plans for overdue or recurring issues
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance operational efficiency, equipment reliability, and guest satisfaction.
  • Support the department's goals in sustainability, energy conservation, and continuous operational excellence.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering license is an advantage.
  • At least 3–5 years of engineering experience in a hotel, resort, commercial building, or facilities management environment, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, generators, kitchen equipment, and preventive maintenance.
  • Experienced in leading engineering teams, contractor coordination, and maintenance planning.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Willing to work on shifting schedules, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs when necessary.
