Role Overview
The Interior Designer will be part of the Business Development team and support the design, development, and execution of interior concepts for new Mad Monkey properties and renovations of existing locations. The role supports the delivery of properties that reflect the Mad Monkey brand while incorporating local culture, functionality, and operational efficiency.
Working closely with Business Development, Operations, and Construction teams, the Interior Designer will contribute to creating dynamic, social environments that enhance the guest experience and maximize commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Concept Development
Assist in developing interior design concepts for new Mad Monkey hostels and renovations across the portfolio.
Support creation of mood boards, layouts, space planning, and visual concepts aligned with the Mad Monkey brand.
Iterate designs based on feedback from BD, Operations, and Architecture
Consider operational flow, maintenance, and durability when supporting design decisions
Project Development & Execution
Collaborate with the Business Development team during the early stages of property acquisition and feasibility assessments.
Produce design presentations, drawings, and specifications for internal approval and contractor use.
Work within established design frameworks, guidelines, and project structures set by senior team members
Support coordination with architects, contractors, and suppliers.
Track design changes and ensure alignment across stakeholders.
Brand & Guest Experience
Support design decisions that enhance the Mad Monkey guest experience and social atmosphere.
Apply existing design guidelines across projects.
Support the refinement of design standards based on project learnings.
Procurement & Budget Management
Exploring and developing international supplier networks, assisting in sourcing FF&E and materials across key regions, and aligning procurement strategies.
Support cost-conscious decision making while maintaining design quality.
Site Visits & Quality Control
Support site visits to ensure execution aligns with approved designs
Support new property openings with final styling and design setup.
Identify improvement opportunities for existing properties.
Requirements
Degree or qualification in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
1-3 years experience in hospitality, commercial, or lifestyle interior design.
Experience designing bars, hostels, hotels, or social spaces preferred.
Strong space planning and visual storytelling skills.
Strong willingness to learn and take feedback
Comfortable working in non-linear environments
Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, or similar).
Ability to work across multiple projects in fast-paced environments.
Willingness to travel to Mad Monkey properties across Southeast Asia.
