Senior System Administrator

Job Brief  

We are seeking an experienced and technical Senior System Administrator to serve as the senior technical authority overseeing day-to-day IT operations, cloud infrastructure, and system reliability. This role is responsible for maintaining modern cloud platforms, optimizing enterprise network infrastructure, and executing key modernizations across Microsoft 365, Azure, and AWS environments. By implementing robust security controls aligned with ISO27001 and ACSC Essential Eight standards, driving system upgrades, and mentoring junior staff, the successful remote professional will safeguard organizational assets and maintain peak operational productivity. 

Responsibilities:

  Senior Technical Escalation Act as the primary technical escalation lead for complex IT issues, overseeing ticket queues and guiding the resolution of critical infrastructure challenges.  

  
  

• 
  

  Cloud & Infrastructure Management Maintain, optimize, and modernize primary Azure, Microsoft 365, and secondary AWS cloud environments, leading cloud migration projects through to completion.  

  
  

• 
  

  System Monitoring & Disaster Recovery Oversee system patching, endpoint compliance, backup restorations, and disaster recovery testing to ensure minimal operational disruption.  

  
  

• 
  

  Network Infrastructure Optimisation Configure, troubleshoot, and refine enterprise network architecture, including firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless access points.  

  
  

• 
  

  Information Security Governance Maintain ISO27001 information security programs, enforce ACSC Essential Eight compliance, manage access controls, and respond to security incidents.  

  
  

• 
  

  Technical Mentorship & Oversight Provide technical leadership, guidance, and task prioritization for junior IT support staff, ensuring high-quality service desk outputs.  

  
  

• 
  

  Documentation & Compliance Auditing Prepare audit evidence, maintain system configuration documentation, update disaster recovery procedures, and deliver internal security training. 

  
  

Requirements: 

• 
  

  Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in a System Administrator or Senior Infrastructure role with lead technical responsibility.  

  
  

• 
  

  Advanced proficiency in administering Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, and Windows Server infrastructure.  

  
  

• 
  

  Strong enterprise networking skills, including hands-on configuration of firewalls, routing protocols, switches, and wireless networks.  

  
  

• 
  

  Proven experience maintaining ISO27001 information security management systems and enforcing ACSC Essential Eight frameworks.  

  
  

• 
  

  Practical exposure to secondary cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud in a hybrid environment.  

  
  

• 
  

  Demonstrated capability to mentor junior technical staff and oversee service desk delivery quality.  

  
  

• 
  

  Fluent written and verbal English communication skills, with confidence presenting technical concepts to non-technical executive stakeholders.
