The Design Team Lead will oversee two graphic designers responsible for updating and realigning existing creative assets to conform to QBE’s newly refined brand. Longer term these designers will also need to take-on briefs for the design of new assets from around the globe.
This role includes managing the design hub’s operations, managing the team's workload, ensuring high-quality outputs, onboarding, training, people development and coaching, and maintaining consistency across all materials.
The Team Lead will also be involved in the work including developing templates to facilitate self-serve options for the business and replacing all current templates with brand-compliant versions. The Team Lead is an experienced designer and will be involved in the design work.
Key Responsibilities
- Team & People Management
- Lead and supervise the Graphic Designers, providing guidance, support, feedback and ongoing coaching and development
- Delegate tasks and manage the team's workload to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss progress, address issues, and plan future activities
- Brand & Quality Adherence
- Oversee the update and realignment of existing creative assets, including brochures, reports, newsletters, posters, advertisements, and digital materials, to adhere to the new brand guidelines
- Ensure consistency and adherence to the new brand guidelines and quality standards across all updated material
- Design Operations
- Embed, manage and improve all systems, processes and operations across the design hub
- Liaise closely with the Group and Divisional Design Teams to determine and propose ways that workflows and other operations could be improved
- Collaborate with the AU Studio team to understand their requirements and provide timely updates
- Constantly track and manage design capacity and incoming volume, report on output and liaise accordingly with our Studios in Group and Divisions.
- Ensure all briefs are completed accurately and efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality control to ensure all materials reflect the new brand accurately
- Communication and Collaboration
- Become an active member of our QBE design community along with other designers and workflow managers from across the enterprise
- Provide constant feedback on the brand guidelines and our new design system and tools to our Group Studio, for issue resolution and the ongoing optimisation of our guidelines and tools
- Work closely with our Studios in Group and Divisions to ensure seamless execution of the brand update process
- Communicate effectively with various stakeholders to provide updates on progress and address any concerns.
- Template Development
- Lead the development and implementation of new templates that align with the new brand to facilitate self-serve options for the business. Oversee the replacement of all outdated templates with new, brand-compliant versions
Requirements
1. Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years in graphic design, or a related role.
- Minimum 2–3 years in a managing a team of designers
- Experience in people development and training/upskilling
- Minimum 3 years experience in the operations of managing a group of designers
2. Technical Skills
- Advanced skills in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator.
- Proficient skills in template building using MS Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong understanding of typography, colour theory, and layout design.
- Experience with prepress and print production processes.
3. Leadership and Team Management
- Ability to assign tasks, set priorities, and oversee day-to-day operations.
- Provide guidance and constructive feedback to team members.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and make informed decisions under tight deadlines.

- Identify inefficiencies in design workflows and implement improvements.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
