This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Job Description:

   

Organizes and directs tax compliance activities. Prepares and reviews tax returns and related reports to ensure compliance with all transaction tax regulations by properly interpreting tax laws. . Minimizes tax liability to the company. Manages audits of tax returns by tax authorities.

Management Level Definition:

Applies advanced subject matter knowledge to manage staff activities in solving common and complex business/technical issues within established policies. Manages exempt individual contributors and/or supervisors. Has accountability for results of a major program in terms of cost, direction and people management. Provides guidance on process improvements and recommends changes in alignment with business tactics and strategy for area of responsibility. Plans, manages and monitors operational/tactical activities of Staff. Staff members' work may involve strategic issues. Recruits and supports development of direct staff members. Typically reports to MG2 or Director. 
 

Responsibilities:

Manages a team of exempt individual contributors for a type of tax by monitoring and/or setting performance goals and objectives, staffing project teams, and ensuring timely and effective delivery of various tax efforts and programs.

  • Sets program expectations for tax efforts; motivates, coaches, and fosters creativity within teams.
  • Provides guidance on tax issues at high levels of complexity.
  • Is accountable for assigning and reviewing tax returns and for their financial, business, and legal outcomes.
  • Identifies potential compliance issues and recommends solutions.
  • Communicates and consults with senior management on strategic and tax-related issues.
  • Collaborates with senior business leaders to resolve highly complex tax issues; represents company to external stakeholders, such as tax authorities.
  • Develops relationships with tax industry professionals and/or organizations.
  • Maintains current market trends knowledge and keeps abreast of latest developments as they affect Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the company's standards and policies.

Education and Experience Required:

  • First-level university degree or equivalent experience; advanced university degree preferred.
  • Typically 8+ years of related experience in tax, finance or the audit function.
  • Typically 0+ years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Content expert in the field of tax matters.
  • Strong financial and business acumen; general industry knowledge.
  • In-depth knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment as it relates to transaction tax
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including goal-setting, conflict resolution, performance management, meeting leading, budget planning, problem solving, and evaluation.
  • Strong influence and negotiation skills and ability to persuade both tax authorities and convince businesses to comply.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Very strong communication and presentation skills, including both written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to think about issues relating to treasury or financial accounting, in addition to tax-related matters.
