Do you want to be a part of a growing Wastewater treatment team? Can you collaborate with colleagues across UK and International projects? Are you experienced in wastewater treatment projects design management for UK water utility clients? Then, this could be the next adventure in your career.

Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow
To further strengthen our wastewater treatment capability on major infrastructure projects, we are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the design and technical delivery of wastewater treatment plant projects across the full project lifecycle. In this role as a Design Manager you will fulfil the role of WWTP Lead and will be responsible for leading the team in developing cutting-edge solutions for the water Industry. This role requires a deep understanding of engineering principles, design methodologies, and industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing design through feasibility, outline and detail, fostering innovation, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, with specific experience delivering projects for UK water sector frameworks (e.g. AMP cycles).

Furthermore, on a day-to-day basis you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the process and detailed design of municipal and/or industrial wastewater treatment plants for UK regulated water utility projects, including AMP delivery frameworks, ECI, and Design & Build (NEC3/NEC4) models.

  • Ensure compliance with UK and international standards, client requirements, environmental permits, CDM Regulations 2015, and relevant water industry guidance including Sewers for Adoption and Design & Construction Guidance.

  • Provide technical leadership during feasibility, tender, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and start-up phases, including performance optimisation and on-site technical support.

  • Interface with clients, regulators, contractors, UK water companies, and delivery partners while managing engineering budgets, schedules, risks, and framework tender submissions.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence, innovation, and capability development within the organisation

Your Skills. Our Team. Together We Design the Future
The first step to thrive in this role is that you are motivated to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.
On top of that, you have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or Process Engineering with 10+ years of experience in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) design, including projects for UK water utilities.

  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex WWTP projects, with strong knowledge of biological, physical, and chemical wastewater treatment processes.

  • Good understanding of UK/international standards, UK water industry frameworks, EA/Ofwat requirements, and delivery models including EPC, Design & Build, and NEC3/NEC4 contracts.

  • Experience with digital delivery and engineering tools such as BIM (ISO 19650), 3D design platforms including Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Civil 3D, and process modelling tools like BioWin and SIMBA would be advantageous.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and client-facing skills, along with an understanding of sustainability, carbon reduction, and net-zero objectives within the UK water sector.
