Software/Firmware Test Technician

The Software/Firmware Test Technician will take Software and Firmware releases and run a pre-determined set of tests in multiple similar configurations to find issues so that engineers can resolve them and determine the suitability for release to customers.  In addition, this position involves testing new experimental hardware/software/firmware, as well as recreating customer reported problems.  The qualified candidate will need to stay current with software and hardware functionality.  Qualified individuals will be working alone or in a team of other technical professionals.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Is responsible for the successful day-to-day execution of the VRI pre-determined software and firmware test process.


• Will assist in the development and continued improvement of test capabilities for new and existing products.


• Prepare reports that indicate test results or quality levels as needed.


• Provides technical support for testing new products. Insures quick turnaround of results during development process.


• Writes clear and concise reports on project progress.


• Will present test results to management via regular engineering, software and firmware release meetings.


• Perform physical stress tests on hardware to confirm functionality after prolonged use.

Position Requirements:

• Preferred engineering A.S. degree or equivalent work experience.


• 3-5 Years experience with relevant technologies and products.


• Makes recommendations on the suitability of the release of the software/firmware.


• Excellent technical judgment and decision-making skills.


• Dependable person with good work ethic.


• Team player who desires working in an environment where team concepts are valued, practiced, and encourages teamwork in his/her staff.


• Must have a natural curiosity and drive to establish high quality and reliable processes.


• Ability to be meticulous in following processes and documenting results.


• Maintain focus while repeatedly rerunning a large number of tests multiple times in similar conditions.  A significant number of these tests will not be automated.
