Role Overview:

The Forensic Consultant is responsible for the review, assessment and investigation of funeral claims through a desktop assessment process. The Forensic Consultant must determine through the assessment/investigation process whether there is a reasonable suspicion of fraud. The Forensic Consultant will be responsible to engage with business on feedback and follow ups and provide feedback within SLA. The role involves gathering and analysing evidence, maintaining accurate documentation, and report on findings. This a fixed term contract and the role is be based in Western Cape, Cape Town. (2 roles)

Key Result Areas / Outputs

1. Desktop Assessment

  • Reviewing the referral (from various reporting sources), request or gathering information and evidence to decide whether to:

    • Refer the claim to a Service Provider for additional verification.

    • Refer to business recommend settlement.

    • Refer to business recommend repudiation.

    • Assign for further investigation.

2. Allegation Reporting

  • All perusals identified for further assessment/investigation must be captured on the fraud case management system.

3. Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management

  • Interact with internal/external clients (e.g., Claims, Product Support, Underwriting) to gather information, clarify facts, and provide updates on case progress.

  • Maintain a good working relationship with external Service Providers.

4. Feedback on findings

  • Review reports and provide well-articulated feedback that highlights key findings and recommendations to support findings.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Matric / Grade 12 is essential.

  • Fraud Examiner certificate and/or a qualification in Forensics, Law, Accounting, or Information Technology is advantageous.

  • 2 - 5 years of experience in a forensic, claims assessing/investigations and financial services environment.

  • Experience in funeral claims assessments (desktop) /investigations is essential.

  • Self-starter, able to show initiative and work with minimal guidance.

  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Solution-driven, passionate, and energetic.

  • Possess a strong sense of ownership, initiative, and a proactive mindset.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge of forensic methodologies and investigation techniques in financial services.

  • Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Knowledge of criminal law, labour law, and financial crime regulations.
