Old Mutual is a firm believer in the African opportunity and our diverse talent reflects this.

Job Description

The Mass Foundation Cluster (MFC) is seeking a high-potential actuarial student to join its Capital and Reporting Actuarial Team, a team at the heart of MFC’s financial insight, performance reporting, and strategic decision making.

The role plays a key part in producing and analysing monthly financial results, translating complex actuarial and financial data into clear, meaningful insights for senior management. You will be closely involved in forecasting and business planning, assessing performance against expectations, and explaining the key drivers behind financial outcomes.

You will also contribute to the ongoing enhancement and refinement of reporting, with a strong focus on improving the quality, efficiency, and business relevance. This includes driving process and model improvements, helping the team continuously strengthen how results are produced, analysed, and communicated.

This role offers an exceptional opportunity to develop strong technical, analytical, and commercial skills, while gaining a deep understanding of how MFC’s business strategy flows through to financial outcomes. Working alongside experienced actuaries across a broad range of actuarial work, this role provides an ideal platform to accelerate your actuarial career through real responsibility, exposure, and impact.

Financial Reporting

Business Planning / Forecasting

  • Assist in the preparation of the business plan and regular forecasts, assessing future financial outcomes and comparing actual performance against prior assumptions and projections. Contribute to understanding the financial impact of business decisions, experience movements, and strategic initiatives.

Continuous Improvements

  • Identify opportunities to improve models, processes, and controls. Drive enhancements that increase efficiency, strengthen governance, and improve the quality and usefulness of reporting outputs. Innovation and initiative are actively encouraged.

Collaboration & Broader Exposure

  • Work closely with actuaries, finance teams, and business partners across MFC. Gain exposure to a broad range of actuarial work, building both technical depth and commercial understanding as responsibilities grow.

Projects

  • Support the delivery of actuarial and finance related projects across MFC, including enhancements to reporting, models, and analytical frameworks. Contribute through analysis, insight generation, and collaboration with stakeholders across actuarial, finance, and the business.

  • A proactive, curious self-starter who looks for ways to improve
