Hotel Cleanliness Expert (Self Checker)

Our Hotel Cleanliness Experts (Self-Checker) are skilled in a wide range of housekeeping functions with responsibility for maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of the  hotel rooms. They are empowered to move about their space and do what needs to be done. Whether delivering guest requests, stocking carts, cleaning rooms or other similar responsibilities, the Hotel Cleanliness Expert (Self-Checker) makes sure the spaces in the hotel help create a great guest experience. 

No matter what position you are in, there are a few things that are critical to success – ensuring a safe workplace, following company policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality, upholding quality standards, and ensuring your uniform, personal appearance, and communications are professional. Doing all these things well (and other reasonable job duties as requested) is critical for Hotel Cleanliness Experts (Self-Checkers) – to get it right for our guests and our business each and every time. 

Inspect your guest rooms allocated to you for the day, and ensure quality standards, verify room status, determine discrepant rooms, prioritize room cleaning, and update status of departing guest rooms. Act as a liaison to coordinate the efforts of Housekeeping, Engineering, and Laundry. Document and resolve issues with discrepant rooms with your Superiors. Prepare and communicate changes in room assignments. Communicate issues to the next shift. Complete required paperwork.

Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; complete safety training and certifications; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards; anticipate and address guests service needs; assist individuals with disabilities; thank guests with genuine appreciation. Speak with others using clear and professional language. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others; listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards. Move, lift, carry, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 55 pounds without assistance and in excess of 55 pounds with assistance. Ability to push and pull a loaded housekeeping cart and other work-related machinery over sloping and uneven surfaces. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. 

GUEST ROOMS

• Check that all appliances, items & equipment are present and in working order (e.g. hairdryer, TV, remote).


• Clean the entire inside and outside of each guest room.


• Clean all guest corridors/lift landings/stores & BOH areas that you will be working on, to keep neat and tidy.


• Limit access to guest areas to a minimum while cleaning, by following departmental procedures.


• Make sure all Brand Standards in the rooms are being uphold or reported to Management if not.


• Make sure your equipment used and guest items used are in good condition for guest usage.


• Report missing hotel property and damages to room to your superiors

CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Minimum 2 years experience as a Room Attendant in Housekeeping within a 5 Star environment 


• 6 months cross training as a Housekeeping Rooms Supervisors advantageous  


• Good communication skills in English


• Read and write in English


• Ability to work flexible working hours and shifts (including weekends and public holidays)


• Computer Literate


• Professional and positive disposition 


• Good leadership and mentorship skills


• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act


• Quality and customer service driven


• Ability to work within a pressurized environment


• Proactive, self-motivated Individual with good professional work ethic


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills 


• Ability to engage and interact with guest


• Ability to deal with conflict situations


• Ability to work within a team and without supervision 


• Ability to perform physically tasks such as heavy lifting, including lifting, pushing, and pulling loads such as laundry bags, mattresses, housekeeping carts and cleaning equipment.


• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods during an 8-hour shift.


• Ability to handle repetitive motions such as bending, twisting, and manual scrubbing.


• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment with frequent physical activity.


• Ensure uniform, personal appearance and hygiene is clean and professional at all times


• Attention to detail pertaining to area of responsibility
