Working Hours: UK hours, Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00
Overview
Our client, a highly reputable and long-established law firm recognised for its success in personal injury and consumer claims, is seeking a Litigation Assistant to join their expanding team. With consistent year-on-year growth and strong client satisfaction ratings, the firm has built a strong reputation within the legal services sector.
Due to operational requirements, this role is in Cape Town, with office spaces being secured
shortly.
The Opportunity
This role involves supporting a senior fee earner in managing a caseload of pre- and post-issue Litigation matters. Prior experience in litigation is advantageous but not essential, as full Structured training will be provided.
The successful candidate will work closely with supervisors and colleagues to develop their
expertise, starting with foundational tasks and progressing to more complex responsibilities.

â Based in Cape Town and able to work full-time in-office
â Willingness to work UK hours (08:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday)
â Strong organisational, communication, and drafting skills
â Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
Key Responsibilities
â Assisting with case handling throughout the litigation process, from initial instruction
through to trial
â Delivering a high standard of client care and maintaining regular communication
â Liaising proactively with clients to obtain instructions and supporting documentation
â Managing and progressing cases, including:
â Conducting legal research
â Drafting key legal documents (letters of claim, pleadings, etc.)
â Instructing counsel and liaising with expert witnesses
â Collating evidence bundles and taking witness statements
â Reviewing expert reports and assessing case merits
â Maintaining accurate case management records
â Assisting with trial preparation, including compiling bundles and briefing counsel
â Negotiating with third parties and advising clients on settlement opportunities
Expected Milestones
Within the first month:
â Efficiently manage and diarise daily chaser tasks
â Navigate the firm’s case management system proficiently
â Draft letters of claim independently
â Conduct introductory client calls confidently
Within three months:
â Meet or exceed time recording targets
â Manage workload independently and complete assigned tasks
â Accurately summarise third-party disclosure
â Draft high-quality instructions to expert witnesses
Within six months:
â Draft Claim Forms and Particulars of Claim
â Prepare instructions for Counsel
â Collate complete bundles for trial and interim hearings
â Review expert reports and provide written advice to clients
â Assess case value based on evidence and findings
