Job Description - Maintenance Technician


 


About the Role


The Maintenance Technician performs advanced maintenance, repair and overhaul activities across electronic, Radio Frequency, digital processing and supporting IT systems to restore equipment functionality and ensure high-quality workmanship, technical accuracy and operational reliability.


 


Qualification and experience:



  • Minimum Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or an applicable NQF Level 6 qualification.

  • Minimum 6 years’ relevant experience; 8 years’ experience in electronic fault finding and component-level repair is preferred.

  • Experience installing and maintaining Windows workstation, Windows Server and Linux operating systems.

  • Experience installing application software and databases.

  • Experience testing and configuring network equipment, including routers and switches.

  • Experience maintaining and repairing power supplies, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, batteries and Digital Signal Processing units.

  • An additional IT-related qualification will be advantageous.

  • Computer Hardware, Workstation and Server Maintenance

  • RAID Configuration and Maintenance

  • Windows Workstation and Windows Server Installation

  • Linux Operating System Installation and Maintenance

  • Application Software and Database Installation

  • Router and Switch Configuration and Testing

  • Power Supply and UPS Maintenance

  • Battery Load Testing and Balancing

  • Enterprise Resource Planning System Data Capturing


 


Key responsibilities:


Electronic Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul


Diagnose, maintain and repair electronic, RF and digital processing equipment using approved technical procedures and test methods to restore equipment functionality and resolve complex faults, resulting in reliable, first-time-right repairs that meet defined quality standards.


 


IT, Network and System Support


Install, configure and maintain computer hardware, operating systems, application software, databases and network equipment across supported systems to ensure correct integration and system functionality, resulting in stable and operational technical solutions.


 


Repair Quality and Operational Performance


Execute and monitor repair activities against quality, turnaround-time and cost requirements while optimising spare-parts usage and maintaining accurate ERP and technical records to control repair performance, resulting in reduced rework, fewer customer complaints and improved service efficiency.


 


Technical Support and Capability Development


Provide technical guidance, customer support and training across complex maintenance and repair activities while coordinating third-party repairs where required to resolve technical issues and strengthen maintenance capability, resulting in effective service delivery and improved equipment support.


 


Occupational Health and Safety Compliance


Apply Occupational Health and Safety requirements throughout maintenance, repair, testing and workshop activities to identify and control operational risks, resulting in a safe, compliant and zero-incident working environment.
