What you will do
- Responsible for the scheduled deliveries of raw and packaging materials by converting the output of the Detailed Scheduler into daily / weekly material requirements to ensure availability of the right quantity of components to the production lines when needed.
- Manage and develop work processes that integrate production requirements into materials plans.
- Responsible for meeting material availability need, and resolution of material supply challenges
- Ensure that all material delivery schedules are communicated to the suppliers on time to meet plan requirements.
- Liaise with the suppliers to clarify potential plan constraints and interfaces between suppliers and key internal stakeholders until issues are resolved.
- Interfaces with QA and warehouse staff regarding rejected or defective materials making the necessary physical arrangements with the supplier to ensure a prompt return of goods or disposal and that any credit along with any consequential loss is claimed and received.
- Manages potential abrupt deviations to the plan, assessing with the suppliers the feasibility of the changes, rapidly highlighting to the affected internal stakeholder if the changes are not possible.
- Liaise with Warehouse staff to understand and adhere to space constraints, managing inventory levels within agreed targets.
- Participate in meeting held with the suppliers to discuss continuous improvements of processes and systems related to the supply of materials, minimum order quantities, economic batch quantities and any other variable affecting the call-off quantities involved in the material schedule, providing valuable contribution to the discussions to capture opportunities
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the scheduled deliveries of raw & packaging materials to ensure availability of the right quantity of components to the production lines when needed, communicating the plan to the different suppliers within the agreed lead times. This should guarantee that the flow of materials is optimal considering the plants’ warehouse capacity & inventory targets to eliminate potential disruptions, minimize both storage costs & potential SLOB.
- Ensures that all material delivery schedules are communicated to the suppliers on time to meet plan requirements. Liaise with the suppliers to clarify potential plan constraints and interfaces between suppliers and the key internal stakeholders until issues are solved.
- Tracks and reports site level supplier service performance, communicating the information to SOURCING.
- Expedite operations that delay schedules and alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions due to material challenges.
- Interfaces with QA and warehouse staff regarding rejected/defective materials, making the necessary physical arrangements with the supplier to ensure a prompt return of goods or disposal and that any credit along with any consequential loss is claimed and received.
- Manages potential abrupt deviations to the plan assessing with the suppliers the feasibility of the changes, rapidly highlighting to the affected internal stakeholders, are not possible.
- Update Vendor quotes, monitors PO Execution & resolves supplier invoice queries.
- Procures against approved Materials Register and specifications.
- Places orders weekly and ensures order acknowledgment from suppliers.
- Responsible for all internal material inventory management, meeting targets set for SLOB as well as keeping write-off to a minimum.
- Ensure monthly forecasts are submitted to suppliers as required.
- Responsible for BPCS Change Control for vendor data changes
- Initiates GCC’s as required and drives closure as per stipulated timelines.
- Execute plans to mitigate SLOB (including expirations) & demurrage costs.
- Compile weekly delivery schedules and manage Return to Vendor activities
- Compile weekly exception reports and collaborate with Planning Dept to resolve repeat expeditions. Update due dates accordingly.
- Ensure payment of vendors in accordance with agreed payment terms.
What we are looking for
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 with 2 – 5 years proven experience in a Pharmaceutical /FMCG manufacturing environment with purchasing experience preferable.
- APICS or Supply Chain Certification would be advantageous –preferably with courses including Production Planning, Purchasing or Supply Chain management.
- Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) certification is preferable.
- Understanding of purchasing/planning process & experience in working with ERP systems
- Demonstrate initiative and lateral thinking to solve problems.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
