Job Description - Mechanical Engineer

An established engineering and construction company is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join its growing project delivery team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale mining, industrial, infrastructure and energy projects, managing the full construction lifecycle from planning through to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) construction activities across multiple projects.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs and technical documentation.
  • Monitor construction progress and ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, supervisors and construction teams.
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure work meets quality and engineering standards.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues affecting project delivery.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Monitor productivity, resource utilisation and material requirements.
  • Prepare project reports and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all SHEQ requirements.
  • Support commissioning, testing and final project handover.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in SMP construction within the mining, industrial, power or heavy engineering sectors.
  • Sound knowledge of structural steel, mechanical equipment installation, piping systems and construction methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometric drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of quality control and construction standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering/project management software.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Willingness to travel and work on project sites when required.
  • ECSA registration (Professional or Candidate) will be advantageous.
